Downtown Oswego, By The River

My Water Post For Today.

Yes, there have been quite a few water posts coming from the Oswego area. I just can't help it. They will eventually run out, I am sure. :-)

This one shows off the west side of the City of Oswego, the area I called home, for my 2 1/2 years in college.

The photo was taken from my hotel along the Oswego River at sunset. The Courthouse is the large building in the background.

I always love the colors of a sunset, on buildings and (of course) the river flowing by.

A Haiku

My teacher sent this website to some of his former students. He wants to get some Haiku examples to show the students he will be coming into contact with, during his sabbatical time. In case I did not mention it, he will be out of the Country this Fall.

I created a Haiku, per his instructions and asked him if I could post it with the link to his site. With his kind permission, HERE it is. You don't have to hit send or do it at all, but just in case the spirit is moving you, enjoy.

Remember, Haiku is a very structured poetry, so play by the rules (for the most part).

Mia Famiglia

I don't have much of the past, but I did manage to bring this photo over to the West Coast.

This is my Mom's side of the family. She is the littlest one, in the center. Her brother and sister on either side of her.

My grandmother and grandfather are the older two people.

In interesting things, I am named after my grandmother. She was named after her grandmother. She and I were both the first born in our families. We Italians believe in these things. Though I obviously deviated from this plan by naming my son after a rock guitarist. :-)

In other interesting facts, my middle name comes from my aunt, who is on the far right. So my two names come from this side of the family.

I happen to love genealogy.

Oswego By Air

Watch this lovely trailer for a full length production called Oswego By Air.

Produced by Demetri Andritsakis and recorded with a drone.

I mentioned drones in my review of the NAB this year. There were many helicopter drones with cameras attached, flying around the room.

Already, I think we are seeing a shift in how things get filmed. :-)

If this is the results of that new technology...I say, bring it on!

The Certificate Has Arrived

Just a quick 2 minute update on the Certificate I got.

I wanted to point out 2 things on the Certificate.

The first one is that is says that the Department of Graduate Studies has conferred an Advanced Certificate on me.

The other is that I have been granted this Post Baccalaureate Certificate.

They really go out of their way to not mention that I was taking Graduate level classes on a track for a Masters Certificate.

OK, they backed off on it a little bit, but I still am very proud.

I will live without the hood, quite well, thank you.

A Door To The City Of Angels

Last Wednesday my friend Deb and I spent the evening at a play, The Last Confession.

Before the play began, we started taking photos of each other.

This first one was actually the second one we took.

She wanted a photo of her with City Hall and so I obliged her, which you can see below.

Then we decided we wanted a photo of the two of us in the doorway.

Thankfully for us, a nice person came by at that moment and took this first photo.

Unfortunately for us, you really can't see City Hall in the photo of the two of us, but you can make it out in the photo I took.

The portal is pretty cool and we really liked the photos and what we think they stand for.

A door to the city of angels, perhaps?

I love the Music Center of Los Angeles and this is another reason why.

I hope you enjoy, two friends acting silly. :-)

Heading To San Diego

We are heading to the water today. San Diego water, to be exact.

Our friends from Arizona are coming over with their grandkids, once again and we begged off any "Theme Parks" visits. Being broke, we asked if they had a beach day planned and we heard that this was the case and so that is the day we decided to make the trip down to see them.

We have the KCETLink Board of Directors meeting first, before we head down. It's gonna be a busy day for my Husband and I.

Birds By The Lighthouse

My Water Post For Today.

Oswego, New York. Sunset.

Even the birds know it, since you can see them flying off to where ever birds go at night. I see birds flying down our "river" all the time, so I guess it's just a bird thing.

The Oswego Light House is in the harbor and in my humble opinion, all is right in the world.

I hope you enjoy.

Anchor Bar Wing Sauce

If you remember, we visited Buffalo's famous Anchor Bar, while Upstate. I wrote about it HERE.

Since my son was not with us, we promised him that we would buy a bottle of Anchor Bar Wing Sauce, to make the wings here at home. It is plastic, by the way and so it traveled very well. A few weeks ago we bought wings and this weekend, it was decided that we would try to make them.

I heated up oil til it was pretty darn hot (and then lowered the heat), cut, washed and dried the wings and then put them into the pot. It was a large pot and I was pleased that it did not stop boiling, as I placed the wings in. They said 15 minutes, though I left them in about 20 minutes. I guess I had the heat on too low, because my Husband said that the Anchor Bars wings were a bit more crunchy, then the ones I made. So next time I might bring up the fire, just a bit. Otherwise, they were delicious, covered with the Medium Anchor Bar Sauce and served with Blue Cheese.

I highly recommend these wings.

The King Of Queens

My friend from Queens has begun blogging. I have added him onto my list of blogs I read, down on the right side of my blog.

This past Wednesday he blogged some photos that were taken at Fort Totten.

I can't resist linking to the post HERE and showing you him in action.

He is probably going to kill me, if he sees it. :-)

Hanging Around Union Station Chicago

We didn't have a lot of time in Chicago last month, but I think we took advantage of what little we did have.

After our lunch, we definitely did some photography in the city, not only of the river and buildings, but of us by the river and buildings.

My Husband wanted a photo of him hanging out at Union Station and so I obliged him.

You can tell he is content, because it is a photo he wanted.

This second photo is taken by the Chicago River. Not a good enough photo of it, to be worthy of a water post, but a nice one of me hanging around.

Every time I spend a few moments in Chicago, I am reminded that when the snow finally leaves, it just can't be beat for beauty.

There are flowers blooming in every pot and bed on the ground and the hanging pots up above.

A wondrous sight. Oswego tries the same thing, but it just doesn't have the tall buildings setting them off. In other words, a different feel to the flowers arrangements.

I do love Chicago.

Windmills

We saw these windmills in Illinois, on our way across the Country.

Amazingly, this photo was taken with my cell phone and I thought it came out really nice. Especially on a moving train.

When I contemplate the photo, the main thing I worry about is that these windmills are in the north end of tornado alley.

Maybe I should not contemplate that and instead enjoy the serene look of them.

That works for me.

Goodbye Lana

It amazes me how many friends of my son have had their family leave the area. It was like they came for the schools but then moved on in their lives and Santa Clarita did not figure into their plans. I have mentioned some of this before, but another friend is leaving this week, so here I am again, making comments.

Lana has actually been up in Oregon at school for the past 4 years, so it is not that big a deal that her Mom is leaving. It is just sad, because she used to come back during breaks and that obviously won't be happening anymore.

She is a big Star Trek and geeky Sci-fi person and both my son and I enjoy interacting with her.

Of course, there is still Facebook and in my son's case, they can still play games "together".

Thank God for the Internet! :-)

Springpad Is Closing Down As Of June 25th

Springpad was a wonderful free online organizing application that I have been using for my recipes, for the past 6 or so months.

I had slowly been migrating my recipes (that live on the side of my blog) over to Springpad. Updating photos of the dishes, adding information and all around making my recipes more organized.

I had plans to finish the migration over to Springpad after I finished school in May.

Once again man plans and God laughs. On May 25th of this year, Springpad informed its users that it is closing down as of June 25th. Sorry guys and gals, now leave.

I was very upset and the only thing that made me be less upset, is that I had never made that final recipe migration, from my blog to Springpad. I had something like another 25 or so recipes left to do. So the other night, instead of moving them over, I went over what was on Springpad and got the original blog posts where the recipes came from and put them back up on the right side of my blog. You can find them all there.

The recipes are now in alphabetical order, too. So it will be easier for you to locate any recipe you might have use for.

Sigh, sigh...

The Throgs Neck Bridge In May

My Water Post For Today.

When we were visiting Fort Totten, we had to park under the main approach to the Throgs Neck Bridge.

As we walked all around the area, we had so many views of the bridge and I have decided to showcase two of them today.

This first one almost takes you back to 100 years ago (minus the bridge, of course).

The second photo is a more normal photo of the bridge, on a semi-cloudy day.

Of the two photos, my personal favorite is the first photo.

Once again, thanks to Shawn for bringing us up into Fort Totten, with all its wonderful views.
