Skagway Harbor, Alaska

My Water Post For Today.

Here we are in Skagway, once again.

This was my first view of the town. Those towering mountains high above the water, remind me of Ketchikan, which we had visited a few days earlier.

The harbor has room for 3 or 4 cruise ships, so that is why it looks like it does. Several docks around the area. It was crowded with just us and it makes me wonder how bad it would get with those other ships in harbor.

Now, there is no sailing so nobody sees the beauty of this unspoiled country.

I hope you enjoy.

The Cats Feeding Station Has Moved

First off, a very Happy Birthday to my youngest brother. Love you.

For some reason Makenna seems to be more afraid when she eats her dry kibble in the family room. My Husband and I decided to move the kibble feeder from our family room over to our bedroom. The bedroom is where we feed her the wet stuff, so this is not unpresidented.

Due to needing an outlet, it is across the doorway from where we had the water and wet feeder. This has been giving her nothing but trouble. When she runs into the bedroom, she immediately plants herself at the old location.

We laugh and point to the new location.

Other then the utter confusion, we are pleased that it seems to be working for us. She is by herself and so we do not bother her when she is eating. There is nothing worse than a cat looking over her shoulder, when trying to gulp down her food.

The rabbit food seems to be doing its job. She has not thrown up for almost 3 weeks.

Saugus Strong (2020)

It was a year ago, today...The Saugus High shooting.

I posted about it HERE.

2 children killed and the gun man took his life, too.

This community has had that over their heads, even as the coronavirus surges. Fireworks go off and the young children in our area freak out.

We honor the dead with a blue light that we have in our front window this past year and we are not the only ones.

We are Saugus Strong.

Winter Is Coming

With the start of colder days this past weekend, the cat has decided that being in the covers is the way to go.

As a matter of fact, I had to wrestle with her on Monday morning, for my blue Nutcracker throw (seen in this photo as the blue cover that she has her front paw on). It comes with me when I move to the Family Room at night.

I actually love having her with us, rather then having her sleep in her bed under the love seat.

Sharing warmth...yeah, something Angeleno's don't get to do much.

Thanks Makenna

A Flag Still Flies

I took this photo on Sunday, we will see if it still flies on Thursday, when this entry posts.

Being it is one of the few Trump flags still flying, I am glad I did not shoot an arrow or something, at it.

It's been hard for us, since it faces our kitchen and sliding glass window. The two windows we most often see.

I am not sure what the lower flag is. It is a blue California Flag and so I think it signifies blue lives matter (or something like that).

Veteran's Day (2020)

A Happy Veteran's Day to all veterans out there.

A special shout out to those who I know that are still serving.

As I mention each year, I am so proud of my personal veteran, my Husband.

Also to my friend in Phoenix, who ended up in Vietnam. A much harder gig than my Husband got.

Thank you and everyone, for your service.

45 Years After The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald (2020)

I wish I was in Oswego right now, because seeing Lake Ontario always brings back the memories of my first time living up there and hearing the Gordon Lightfoot song about the wreck.

It is a milestone anniversary. 45 years ago, in the midst of a storm, The Edmund Fitzgerald went down.

29 crew went down with it

The Shipwreck Museum is having a virtual memorial ceremony at 7PM (assuming EST). You can check it out, HERE.

On The Train In Skagway, Alaska

My Water Post For Today.

Skagway, Alaska. A beautiful, but tiny town in the northern part of the Inside Passage.

It was cold and windy, the day we visited. The scenery was beautiful though, with the trees just starting to leaf out.

This photo was taken from the train, on our way up to the top of the pass.

We had a river that we kept crossing that made the journey even more stunning.

I hope you enjoy it.

My Largest Food Donation To Date!

The day has arrived. We have a new President. Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

While all that was going on, I spent the morning getting my donation of food ready to be delivered to St. Kateri Church.

This is the one that goes not only to our local population, but to Mecca, the extremely poor people who live out in the middle of the desert east of Palm Springs.

I had 2 months to get this together and it is my largest donation, to date. Five bags of food (a total of forty items, ten of which are boxes of cereal).

I hope this helps them.

Here We Go Again?

I have been hearing for the past 3 weeks about a rush on some pantry items, once again.

I have been buying a few cans of food each week (usually soups and chili), in anticipation of shortages of some things.

As I passed the paper aisle, I saw this. Totally out, for the most part.

Seriously folks, can't we keep toilet paper in stock?

Thankfully for me, I have replenished our TP stock and we can handle no TP for a few months.

Testing The Water

This project has been months in the works.

Trying to water the lawn in the back yard better.

Among other things, like putting the divider between the grass and the plants back in, we have put the sprinklers on higher risers and moved the divider so that they are no longer in the grass.

We are still finishing a few things, but the divider is now finished and I intend to try growing some grass in some of those spots without anything but dirt.

We are still dealing with the lights that are not working (it is a wire that somehow got cut somewhere) and one of the sprinklers is not currently working. Hubby intends to totally replace it today.

We will both be happy when we don't have to feel guilty that it is an "in the works" project.

I Just Finished 2 Months At College, An Update

The Presidential Election. We are still waiting...

I am down to the last month of the Fall Semester of college.

I have a few more modules in one class and then the final Zoom presentation. I heard it is 60 minutes in length for our group of three. Yikes!

I am 2/3rds through a Partner assignment and then the Final Project, which I have not even thought about yet.

I registered for Spring Semester and it is a totally online class, just like this semester. Since it is a 4 credit class, I did not sign up for two classes this time, due to the cost per credit for this "out of stater".

I believe I am running an "A" in both classes, at this point, though one instructor just lets you know how many points you have earned, instead of a letter grade.

As one of my instructors says, "Finish Strong".

Operation Gratitude

Well, just like I predicted in yesterday's post...counting is not going well as of 1AM Wednesday.

Donald Trump has declared himself President, in spite of the fact that 6 states have still not finished counting their ballots and they are too close to call.

More to come on that, at a later time.

In something I did on Sunday.

I read that Girl Scout Troop #1292 was collecting left over Halloween candy for first responders and the troops overseas, via a Facebook Group I belong to.

As I mentioned, I had a few people, but had lots of candy, on top of "our" candy.

Thus, it was fine to go.

My Husband and I made a trip to Stevenson Ranch and dropped the candy into a box. Totally a non-touch situation.

Thank you Girl Scout Troop 1292, you are doing a good thing.

Here It Is...Election Day (2020)

Today is Election Day in the United States.

All I can say is that it has been a roller coaster and I am not looking forward to the next few days.

Businesses boarded up, in fear of civil unrest. A sitting President who is already getting lawyers ready to contest the election in swing states.

We will see how it goes. I am glad I don't have to be anywhere tomorrow or Wednesday.

Good luck to the candidates I voted for.

An "At Sea" Day From January 30th

First off, it is Day of the Dead, today. My thoughts to those who lost loved ones this year.

My Water Post For Today.

At Sea days. I have so many of them, between our Alaska cruise and Hawaii cruise.

This one happened to be our third day out at sea, on the way to Hawaii.

It was the day my Husband started feeling sick, which ended up affecting the entire rest of our cruise.

I will never forget pulling into Hilo Hawaii and all I got to see was their Walmart, to buy drugs for my guy...but I digress.

Back to being "At Sea". This photo was taken toward sunset, which is the reason the water is so dynamic.

I love it and I hope you like it, too.
