The Super Scoopers Have Arrived! (2023)

Canada has had such an extreme fire season this year, that I seriously did not think we would see the Super Scoopers that come in each year.

The planes are based in Quebec, and I just checked how they are doing. It seems that Quebec is doing better than the West Coast of Canada. Actually, all of Canada is doing better than a week ago.

May the change of seasons help them, and may the Santa Ana winds that come here at this time, not be too bad for us.

Glad to have the extra protection.

A Sunset As The Days Get Shorter

First off, don't forget we get a Blue Moon tonight at 6:37PM (pacific daylight time). I am looking forward to it.

This sunset was just too beautiful to ignore. So you get it here.

I always love the photos from my backyard, because the windmill is right there.

Enjoy the chance to see beauty from nature.

Off To The Vet Today

Monday we had Makenna scheduled for her Bi-annual vet appointment.

Ususally it is mid-September, but since we will be traveling right around that week, we moved it up a bit.

She has been doing better (health wise) than right after my Son left in July, but still not normal (IMHO).

The Vet said she is holding her own, except she has osteoarthritis in her legs. She recommended a once a month shot called Solensia, and we approved her for treatment with it. We will see how it goes.

The photo is of Makenna and my Husband. She was sitting in my seat, after I gave her eye drops and then brushed her. I thought the two of them were cute together.

Searching For Treasure

My Water Post For Today.

I have shown this area of Ventura beach many times.

I never noticed that a man was searching for treasure, using a metal detector.

I thought that was pretty cool, and decided to showcase him (he is over on the far left).

Watching the waves is usually what I do, so forgive me for missing this for 4 years.

Enjoy a look back in the innocent days of 2019, pre-pandemic.

Souvenir Shop

Before I leave the Alaska area of the Country, I wanted to show off one of the souvenirs they had for sale in a gift shop.

These little drums were in the Sealaska Heritage Institute store.

I have come to the realization that I should not buy lots of souvenirs anymore, so instead, I take occasional photos.

I think the owl is very pretty, similar to the stuffed alpaca I saw elsewhere.

If you can get to Juneau it is a nice place to visit.

A Memory From The Past: Posing With An Alpaca In Juneau, Alaska

A friend of mine is currently on the Alaska Cruise.

She has better Internet connectivity than we had, so she posts many photos that bring back lots of memories.

On Friday she had a photo that she took and she has obviously bought a hat made with alpaca wool.

I remember so well buying my hat, and posing with an alpaca in one of the shops along the street.

It looks like I never posted this particular photo, so you get to see it.

I would love to get back there someday.

Los Angeles Union Station Artwork

While waiting in the Metropolitan Lounge at Union Station, I looked at the many things they have in the display cases.

These two pieces of artwork were there, and I really liked the difference between the one in color and the one in shades of black and white.

The station is so beautiful, and it is amazing that it looks the same, all these decades later.

We are so lucky, here in LA.

Los Angeles Aqueduct

It has been quite a year, water wise.

The LA Aqueduct has been pumping water from the San Joaquin Valley for months now.

We don't go through the pass often, but coming home on the train about a month ago, I got to take a photo of it.

Note that water was flowing in both the 1st Los Angeles Aqueduct (the lower one) and the 2nd Los Angeles Aqueduct (the one high in the air).

Especially with an el niƱo weather year on the horizon, this is a good thing.

Moving the water through the system, and storing it.

Jets, Jets, Jets

It's the final month before the new season begins for football.

My team is the Jets. Why? I don't forget my roots.

Like the Mets, they do not do well, but I have a soft spot for them.

This year they have Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay, and that gives me some hope for a good year.

I get tired of first draft quarterbacks, that take years to develop...if they ever do.

I look forward to scoring touchdowns this year. No field goal games.

We shall see what comes in September.

The Gardener's Came

My Husband and I figured that we would not have the gardener making a visit on Monday.

So we were quite surprised when they showed up exactly on time, and mowed the lawn, edged the lawn, cut our hedge in the back...etc, etc.

I guess they have this down to a science.

Between them, and us, the grounds look pretty good compared to what it looked like in the midst of the storm. Note: we got 5 inches (our measurement) or 6.49 inches (the official measurement) in Saugus.

Thanks to them for sprucing things up.

What Water Does To Summer Trees

My Water Post For Today.

Rain...lots of rain.

I have been mentioning this crepe myrtle for the past few weeks and boy did it take a beating on Sunday.

All those branches that were not drooping, are now drooping down.

I may cut them, while they are easy to get to.

Yes, we are totally not used to hurricane rain during the summer.

Our Patio Is Ready

The 4 chairs are now in our house and so are the flags.

Other things are stashed in the garage, around the cars.

Tomorrow we will lower the canopy frame. It is ready to come down, if we hear anything on the latest news forecast that is concerning.

We may lash the table to the barbeque, if we feel it needs it.

As I said yesterday...bring it on.

Hurricane Hilary

Yep, the panic has set in.

The Weather Channel must have sent Jim Cantore out to San Diego, because it is wall to wall radar on almost all the news broadcasts.

I think Maui has added an additional worry to the local stations here in Southern California.

Give us wind, and we worry about fire.

I pulled in the tools we had hanging around the backyard and maybe tomorrow we will take in our flags and chairs on the patio.

2 to 3 inches of rain is expected here in Santa Clarita, so it is the wind that might be an issue.

Hopefully, all will be well.

By the way, this is the first hurricane to hit the West Coast since 1939.

Wixom Station Food And Drink

While we were staying in the area of Michigan where my Son lives, we decided to try a place called Wixom Station.

It is where the rail road track hits a big intersection with Wixom Road and Pontiac Trail crossing each other right there.

My Son mentioned before (on an earlier visit) that he always wanted to try this place out.

So there we were, and so we did.

I got chicken Fettuccine for dinner. Unfortunately, not great, just OK.

It felt like it was a part of a chain, like Red Lobster, but the decorations were interesting, as you can see.

Peach Cobler Dump Cake, Take 2

Back in 2014 I made a Dump Cake. You can see it HERE.

I found a recipe that was simpler, and decided to make it.

I bought the ingredients, and off I went.

I ended up adding 2 packages of oatmeal with dates and nuts, just to get rid of it.

This time I bought whip cream.

It was good.

Peach Dump Cake

2 cans of peaches

A package of yellow cake mix.

A stick of butter.

That's it!

Peaches in the bottom, cake above that, and pieces of butter on top.

Turn on high and cook for approx 2 hours.

Yummy dessert!
