Back in October, I flew down the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, between NY and Washington, DC. At the time I lamented the fact that it got cloudy and I could not see the light house that I have come to love...Barnegat Light on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
My friend from New Jersey introduced me to this lighthouse years ago and when I changed blog fronts, I remembered some of his photos and he graciously allowed me to add a photo he had taken of Barnegat Light, onto my blog.
Recently, we learned that there would be a relighting of "Old Barney", on New Year's night. He decided that in spite of the bitter cold, he would attend the relighting and report on it.
With his kind permission, here is a link to his blog entry, "Old Barney" Rekindled.
Cool. So glad you enjoy(ed) it, Angel.
ReplyDeleteMaybe next time you fly over you'll actually be able to see it—especially if you get a night flight! (Though I have no idea whether you could actually make out the beacon at that altitude.)
And I love that little pic you found!
I was looking for something along those lines at the time I was posting, but never found it. It may have been too soon or maybe I just didn't stumble onto it in all my Googling and looking around for other related stuff.
I hope my next effort at my own pics will come out looking closer to that one which better captures the footlights at Barney's base as well as the glow of the beacon shining in the lantern room up top. But that's a job for a warmer time!
Hey there Dim Skip.
ReplyDeleteI didn't "find" that picture, I "captured" it off of the video from that local station, who got there too late.
I mentioned in my post, that I loved their final shot. ;-)
Feel free to copy mine and use. It's the least I can do, for the amount of enjoyment you gave me.
Neat. I didn't pick up on that obviously even though I did watch the video. I'll watch it again and pay better attention. At the time I was concentrating more on close-ups of the lantern room.
ReplyDeleteI must say... Very resourceful on your part! I even saved the image with my own pics on my hard drive.
