When we came out of Little Tokyo/Arts District Station, we saw a red buiding about a half block away.
We didn't have time to give it a closer look, but I did take a photo of it.
It is the Little Tokyo Watch Tower, and it was built in 1978. Here is an explanation.
"Little Tokyo Historic District which is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and U.S. National Historic Landmark District lists. This watchtower was built in 1978 as part of a revitalization effort at the time. It is a replica typically found in rural Japan of traditional fire lookout towers of the area. Due to their height and visibility, small communities in Japan use these towers to help identify them from one another."
The watch tower is beautiful and worth the time to visit.
