Southwest Chief Train Crash 6-25-22

It happened on a section of track I was paying close attention to, when I took the Southwest Chief a month or so ago.

I was looking for La Plata station and so everytime we went over a crossing, I looked out the window.

Several of them did not have crossing gates. Not that it helps keep people from staying off the tracks, if they want to cross before a train, they will.

What made the accident so terrible, must have been the size of the vehicle that the train hit. Normally, a train will just push the vehicle off to the side and continue on for another mile or so.

This one did not and so the train ended up tipping over on its side.

I am so very sorry for the passengers, engineers, and crew members.

What a horrible thing to have to live through.

My prayers for the dead, too.

Photo is the train passing the camera at Santa Fe Junction, just moments before the crash.
