The Cat Going Back To The Vet

It was time for my cat's bi-annual check-up.

We bring her in and minus gaining some weight, her only problem was in her ear.

We asked the Vet to refill some prescriptions for her and the Vet totally forgot about the ears and so did we.

After we get home and sit down, we look at each other and say, "so what are we supposed to do about her ear?"

Just about that time, the Vet calls us and says she totally forgot and that Makenna needs to return to get it handled.

So we will be going back today.

I bet I will have to give her drops in her ears, but we shall see.

GM Back To Office Plans

We heard from our Son on Sunday that GM had sent the employees a back to work plan.

On Monday, it made the local news, that GM got backlash for trying to get the employees back.

My Son let us know that it leaked to the press and so GM had to put something out on Friday, to let the employees know it from them and not from the news.

It was a rush job and so it was not done as well as it could have been.

His boss said that they would work things out in their area, and decide how to proceed.

I was glad to hear that it won't be immediate and instead, sometime after the 1st of next year.

A Skykomish Puzzle

Another puzzle, for anyone who wants in on doing it.

Click the link HERE.

It was not the best day for a photo, but I love the Boeing Aircraft being brought to the East from the Everett, Washington assembly plant.

It took me 16 minutes to solve the puzzle.

If you do it, enjoy.

A Quick Update

As you can see from the latest test, we here in the Angel House are mostly over our bout with COVID-19.

It hit my Husband worse than me, but he did not get Paxlovid and I did.

In my case, I recovered, but symptoms came back a few days later.

No symptoms now and so I think I am on the good side of it all.

We had an appointment for the cat and since we seemed to be OK, we went in and masked while there.

Tomorrow, we get our haircut.

If we are still feeling good, we will return to gym on Wednesday. If not, some other time.

Another Look At Juneau, Alaska

My Water Post For Today.

Yes, I went back to 2019 and found a lovely photo of not sunny Juneau, Alaska.

I got the definite feeling that this is normal weather for the state capital.

It was chilly that day, but worth the walk around. Most of the downtown area is walking distance, since a mountain sits behind it.

Off to the left of the photo is a tram that will take you to the top of the mountain. Very cool to see and sorry we did not go up there.

Beauty and something different than what I see in Southern California.

I hope you enjoy.

Love Boat Reboot Coming

The Love Boat is coming back, once again. This time as a Reality TV Show.

The contestants look for love on a Princess Ship that spent the summer cruising the Mediterranean.

The cast cruised for a month on the ship (I hope the waters were calm) LOL.

When we took our cruise in 2019, one of the original cast members of The Love Boat was with us.

The ship's doctor, Bernie Kopell, gave a talk to us on one of the "At Sea" days, and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to him.

Seeing the promo for the show brings back all sorts of memories of this cruise.

We shall see if I feel like checking out The Real Love Boat...nah, probably not.

Photo is of our ship's captain.

Another Football Season Started

Yes, it is Week 3 already, but both my teams had a horrid 1st week, so I waited a bit.

Thankfully, both teams, The Rams and The Jets won last Sunday and I feel much better.

In honor of the fact that football is going on, I am bringing back this wonderful display we saw in January of 2020 at Boudin's Bakery.

It is just amazing what they can do with sourdough bread. :-)

If you want to see bread...check out THIS post from 2020.

The John S. Martin

One of the many things that we viewed in Port Huron, Michigan, were several monuments and signs mentioning wrecks that happened over the years.

This particular wreck of the John S. Martin, not only happened, it took down another ship a few weeks later.

You can read the story of the sad events, HERE.

The story itself mentions several other plaques that are around the area. We saw some of them, but not all.

Obviously, another place where sailing the waterways can become deadly.

Fall Has Arrived

Get out your blankets, Fall has arrived!

We here in Southern California have been enjoying cooler weather, but as of this weekend, a High Pressure System is due to arrive with temperatures around 100 degrees.

So I guess no blanket for me for a few days.

I got the blanket pictured, at the Soo Locks, in Michigan. That was back in 2021 and I love the feeling of it and how warm it is.

Perfect for this time of year, especially before I turn on the heat.

New High Quality Steely Dan Albums

I am not a audiophile at all, but there is lots of talk going on in the Steely Dan world right now, in regard to a high quality reissue of the 9 Steely Dan albums.

November 4th is the release date for the first album: Can't Buy A Thrill.

Each one is $150, which means that it will be over $1000 for the 9 album set.

You are not getting something for nothing.

You can read more, in THIS article.

I Wonder How Cold It Gets In The Grand Canyon?

The most vivid memory of my vist to the Grand Canyon in late April of 1979, was how cold it was at night.

My girlfriend and I were sleeping in a tent, so that was half the problem.

This trip will be in the middle of October, so I checked the weather for the Grand Canyon and this is what I found.

A high of 65 and a low of 33 degrees. Yeah, it might get a little nippy in the morning.

So I was thinking of taking my cute hat and scarf that I crocheted back during the pandemic.

Why not?

Another Riverboat At Fort Madison

My Water Post For Today.

I spent a bit of time at Fort Madison (virtually, of course) and saw people and busses hanging around the fort area.

It ends up a riverboat had docked that morning and the people were enjoying their day, exploring the area.

I managed to get a photo of the riverboat, which is American Cruise Lines, American Melody, as it left the area. Next stop is Davenport, Iowa.

I am sure the passengers were happy to leave, since extreme weather was expected in the evening.

Hopefully their journey will miss the weather.

I hope you enjoy.

Thinking Of Flagstaff

We are planning a trip in mid-October and the lucky location is going to be: Flagstaff.

We watch the trains come in to Flagstaff station nightly and decided to rent a car from there and then drive up to the Grand Canyon.

We got a hotel on the South Rim and hope to have a good 2 days seeing what the canyon has to offer.

My major worry is that it might be getting a bit chilly there, but hopefully not too bad.

I definitely want to visit the Lumberyard restaurant across the tracks and have a final meal there before boarding our train home.

Something to look forward to.

Paxlovid

Hopefully, this will be my last post on the subject of getting Covid, and taking Paxlovid.

This photo is what you have to take for 5 days.

From what I hear when the President or one of his staff gets sick, they mention Paxlovid is being taken.

I assumed it was one pill a day.

Silly me, it is 3 horse pills taken twice a day for 5 days.

I give the drug companies credit for the nice way they package the pills, yellow for morning and blue for evening.

For me, taking 6 pills is asking a lot of me. I have nothing but problems taking pills.

That's on top of my normal pill taking.

I hope it helps me recover faster, and I do not get the rebound virus that sometimes happens.

Sigh...

So It Is COVID-19

Two days ago, I was negative on a COVID-19 test. On Thursday, this is what I woke up to.

A very prominent line immediately showed up on my test strip.

I have COVID-19.

I informed my doctor and she prescribed Paxlovid for me to take.

I have heard that you can rebound when on Paxlovid, but my Husband encouraged me to take it anyway.

Symptoms are mild, so hopefully, all will go well.

Desserts At Brett's Deli

When we visited Brett's Deli, I checked out the dessert window.

They had lots of styles of cookies, but we did not buy anything.

Now we are thinking of going to Break the Fast at my Husband's family and I will need to make something or bring something to the gathering.

I was thinking of those Black and White cookies.

We shall see what we end up doing.

I Finally Took A COVID-19 Test

I went to bed on Monday not feeling 100%.

Woke up several times during the night and decided to check if I was sick with COVID-19.

By the time I took the test, it was after my Husband was supposed to go to the gym and so we decided to keep him home, too.

The test turned out negative, but it is an "at home" test and they warn you that it is not totally accurate.

Note, that this is the first time I have done this after 2 1/2 years of the Pandemic.

I am coughing and feel a bit under the weather. Hopefully it is nothing serious.

The Cat With A White Paw

She only has one white front paw, but when she sits just right, there it is.

It always makes me happy when I see it.

Especially when it is dark, after the lights go out.

That little white paw sticks out and I find her easier.

Love my kitty.

NYC Library Once Again

My Water Post For Today.

Back in 2018 I visited the NYC Public Library.

At that time I took photos of both the statue of the man on one side and the woman on the other side.

I posted about it HERE. Showing off the man.

Now it is equal time for the woman who stands there and once again I am wearing my NY Public Library shirt. Totally unknown until I read the old post, that this has become a THING.

Great library and yes, I would love to see it again some day.

St. Therese Icon Day 5 & Beyond

St. Therese got worked on during my normal monthly Iconography Class on Saturday.

There is still more fine line work to do, but being each color had to be mixed by me, it was slow work.

I did several areas that were not done. The white line around her nimbus, which I might do some repair work on.

The dark brick red border around the board, needs another coat, but at least it is there.

I did a little work on her eye, but I have more to do (all fine line).

I did more work on the green that surrounds her and the little bit of background that is yellowish in color. I am not totally pleased with how it came out, so I might do a bit more.

I also did not write her name. that's for another day, when the green area is to my liking.

As expected, my eyes gave out at 4PM, so more to do next time.

Safety Pin Exhibit

Another part of the immigrant experience exhibit at the Skirball, was this interesting display made with cloth and safety pins.

As you can read in the sign next to the exhibit, it symbolizes specifically, the Korean American experience, via the artist's family business.

Each group brings their skills, that others in the United States do not want to do anymore.

More recently the Korean's, and in older times, the Italian's, and the Jewish immigrants.

We ignore immigration of others, at our Country's peril.

The Queen Is Dead

Queen Elizabeth II, is dead, as of September 8th.

She was being watched over by medical personal, when I went to gym in the morning and I wondered if she would die while I was doing my Aquafit class.

It seems as though that is exactly what happened.

By the time I checked in with my phone, she was gone and her son, King Charles III had been announced as the new monarch.

She was monarch for my entire life and I admired her and the family.

Godspeed to you, Elizabeth. You are with your husband, Phillip, and your many corgi dog friends.

1st Day Of Preschool

My great niece started preschool yesterday.

She looked so cute with her hair cut short and her Frozen backpack on her back.

She is almost 3 1/2 now.

Time is just marching on.

I love you so much, Lucia.

Goodbye, Farewell and Amen

One of the first blogs I followed, was one called "By Ken Levine".

It popped up around the last big writer's strike and being I picketed at CBS, I found it of interest and stuck around.

Ken wrote for M*A*S*H*, Cheers, Fraiser, and other shows over a very long career.

He now writes plays, which I find interesting.

After 16 or so years, he has had enough and yes, I could see it coming. First he got rid of a Sunday post, then a Tuesday post and he began grabbing old Friday questions from the past. You wondered what was next.

Well, THIS is what was next.

I will miss your ruminations in the morning and yes, it was fun while it lasted.

Hey, It Rained!

It happens so rarely that I always end up taking a photo of it.

What is it? Rain.

We knew something was up when the house got dark at 3:30PM on Sunday. It was 106 degrees out, at the time.

Then the thunder and it did not stop.

We did not see much in the way of lightning, but you knew it was around.

It ended up raining for about a half hour and took the temperature down to 82 degrees.

We will take it, especially my poor grass.

Jigidi

My Water Post For Today.

Recently I have seen a person who hangs out on Virtual Railfan Cameras post puzzles of some of the things we see.

I was doing a 45 piece puzzle that he posted a link to, on my cell phone the other day and twice it disappeared at the last minute.

I was heartbroken!

I didn't get to see it complete.

He turned up again on Saturday evening and posted a puzzle of the American Queen on the Mississippi River. 104 pieces this time.

From a company called Jigidi.

I did it in 43 minutes.

If this interests you, you can see it HERE and do it yourself.

5 Years Later, Missing You Walter

It has been 5 years (and 1 day) since we lost Walter Becker and though I am glad he missed COVID-19, it has been hard without him.

Donald Fagen goes out performing to this day, but it is not totally the same without his partner.

Many have joined Walter in the big jam in the sky, including his son, Kawai, who died in February of 2021.

I wish them well, together once again.

It's Labor Day Weekend, And Boy Is It Hot!

It has been toasty here in Santa Clarita since Wednesday.

Friday was actually a few degrees cooler than we had on Wednesday and Thursday.

As mentioned the other day, the fire that was burning just north of us, in Castaic, is doing better.

The fire crews on the Ridge Fire, set back fires and it collapsed in on itself. Thus, though still burning, it is going to burn itself out with no further loss of houses.

On top of the heat, this is the best news.

As to traffic, it has not returned to normal and due to the Labor Day Weekend, it will not do so for a bit.

We have no plans for traveling this month.

My Madagascar Dragon Plant

The Madagascar Dragon Tree will just not stop growing!

It reached the top of the ceiling in my dining room and we decided it had to move out.

The problem is that it is only 1 foot or so from the ceiling in that room.

Next stop will probably be the other side of the Living Room (where the ceiling is higher), or the Family Room right next to the computer.

Neither choice is great, which is why it is currently living where it is.

Fire In Castaic

We have had some little fires, usually set off by cars on the side of the freeway, but this one must have got away from the firefighters.

The fact that it was 110 degrees outside, did not help at all.

It was started just north of Castaic (by the lake) and by late afternoon, it was growing substantially.

Due to the normal sundowner winds that blow in the afternoon, they were pushing the fire to the north and east.

Thankfully, not near me and hopefully it will be better by morning.
