I found one of the concerts that was profiled in the Billy Joel Documentary that I watched last week. The C.W. Post College May of 1977 concert.
A note, The Stranger came out in September of that year.
I saw him at Oswego, at that same time, and I remember distinctly hearing "I Love You Just The Way You Are" during the concert. I am not sure about "Italian Restaurant", but he did do that song on Long Island, the place he grew up.
It was a big deal to that audience, naming all those locations that they all knew.
Here is the Setlist, which aired on WLIR from a soundboard recording, if you care to listen to it.

Ah, thanks for that link. It's like a trip back in time, the feel of that era!
ReplyDeleteWe were in Hicksville, back in April having dinner. It was so sad to eat at the Red Lobster right across from the old Sears Building mentioned in Italian Restaurant. It has been closed for years and years, and nothing has taken its place. The Village Green is still there, though. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh and yes, on a trip back in time.
