On our recent trip to Hawaii, we learned that wild roosters are abundant on certain Islands.
We first saw them at Pearl Harbor, on the grass. I had never seen such a thing.
We were told that they are inedible and to just ignore them.
When we arrived in Kauai, they were even more prevalent.
It ends up that on Kauai, they blame hurricane's Iwa and Iniki for the breeding between the domesticated chickens and the wild ones that were brought by the Polynesians, hundreds of years ago.
People think they are cute and they feed them and so especially in tourist areas, they are all over the place.
They have beautiful colors, which means that they generate lots of interest.
But they crow all the time, so that can be annoying to the local residents.
They are also protected by the state and have no predators.
Glad I don't have to dodge roosters here in L.A.
