We are big Monty Python Fan's here at the angel house. Recently on a business trip to Las Vegas we decided to book tickets to see the new Las Vegas Production of Spamalot . It has been playing on Broadway for about a year and they decided to branch out with a slightly different version of the Tony Award winning play, at the Wynn hotel. For those who are not familiar with Spamalot, a member of the Monty Python troupe, Eric Idle, decided to create a play using one of their movies, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, as the jumping off point. The movie is about a recounting, Monty Python Style, of the King Arthur legend.
The Wynn hotel built, just for this production, a brand new theatre called amazingly, The Grail Theatre. On a Saturday night in April, we drove over and got our first look at this new Las Vegas Hotel. To say the least, it screams Las Vegas. Lots of opulence, tile on the floors, chandeliers, etc. Walk down this long corridor with pictures with funny sayings on them and reach the Theatre. We decided to go cheap and had the 1st row in the balcony. Great site lines and I would recommend them to anyone.
Shortly after arriving, the play begins. The characters are indeed exactly what you would expect, though the scenes they do are sometimes quite different. The Lady of the Lake, who is only talked about in the movie, has a prominent lead part and she has "Laker" girls that accompany her. The Laker Girls are dressed as Las Vegas show girls (a nod to the town where this production is taking place). Arthur (played in this current version by John O'Hurley), is Arthur, with his trusty manservant, Patsy. The other knights are the other Knights, Lancelot, Galahad, and of course, Sir Robin (Brave Sir Robin Ran Away). Tim the Enchanter turns up, as does Dennis and his Mother, the Bring out your dead guy (I'm not dead yet). Herbert and his Father, and even The French Taunter (I will taunt you a second time). It was good to see them all. If you have the money and the time and like Monty Python, I highly recommend spending 2 hours of your life reliving the experience and remember to always look on the bright side of life...do do...do do, do do, do do, do do, do do.
