Android's In Our Lives

Yes, this is the thing that is taking so much of my time these past 3 days.

We were at the end of our contract and so my son, with our permission, did a price comparison between phones and contracts. He spent the better part of a month or so, talking to us and narrowing our choices down.

The final decision meant that we needed to change carriers and if we did this, we needed an Android phone. I indicated that I could really use getting real time arrival info for my bus, while I wait at North Hollywood Station at night. Of course Facebook wouldn't hurt... :-)

So we are now Sprint customers. It might get interesting come NASCAR Sprint Cup time of the year. :-)

So far, I am getting used to the phone, but eventually, it will be just fine. Oh in kind of cool things, there are ringtones for techie stuff like, Don't Panic (the sound of the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy book) or Captain's Log (from Star Trek).

What a week it has been.

  1. I have a Droid - from Verizon. I got it one year ago and I have never looked back, love it!

    Enjoy yours!

  2. Thanks!

I know my old boyfriend, Ed has one too, so I figure he might weigh in also. My only problem is all the screens coming up asking stuff, when I am turning off the alarm. Don't know what question I answered this morning. :-)

  3. I don't know, call me a curmudgeon or a Luddite or even a curmudgeonly Luddite (!), but I miss the days when one could say, "Hmmm, think I finally need a new phone"—even then only because something was specifically wrong/broken about the old one—and you could have a (functioning) new one before the afternoon was out. You didn't need to devote a month or two to getting a PhD (Phone-y Doctorate) first. Of course, that's when phones were just phones, what, like 10-15 years ago, but still...

On an unrelated, but somewhat minorly coincigential (i.e. coincidental + tangential) side note, my SF reading material of choice at the moment is this*. (Not to be pimpin' or nothin'... 'cause honestly, I'm not.) That link leads to the author's brief "about the book" page (including cover art, jacket synopsis and review blurbs) on his website. And as an extra special added bonus, he'll also throw in (completely FREE!) the amazing fully automatic sheep-shearer from Ronco-Ginsu... Fully chargeable, never needs sharpening, and you can still use it to safely and fashionably groom your pet afterwards!

    * NOTE: I'm not necessarily loving it yet (though certainly not hating it either), but I'm only in chapter 3. Also, it might be one of those books where I have to be more in the right mood for it, especally starting out. I expect it to pick up as it goes along, but I'm not the fastest or most diligent reader anymore, nothing like I used to be in my younger days. I usually have to work more to get some momentum going, then once I get over the halfway point, it's almost like coasting downhill to finish a book.

  4. I clicked the link and realized where your mind had gone. That book is way funny in the blurb. Watch out for those sheep. :-)

Really? Could you please try to catch it and send it back to me?... I might need it later.

    Thanks!
