Southwest Chief Gets Its Share Of Trouble

Fort Madison, Iowa on Friday 2/24/23.

What has been going on with The Southwest Chief, is that back on Wednesday night, the wind coming through my area of LA over to the desert and into Arizona, became fierce.

The trains couldn't see, and the high winds pummeling them made them unable to travel further, and so they stopped.

Caught in that mess, the Southwest Chief.

When it finally got out of it all, it had to deal with situations like, picking up crew from other trains, and then having their own crew time out. The hours kept adding up.

Amtrak decided to cancel #3 that was coming West, and terminate it in Albuquerque. It then connected with the poor #4, and the entire 12 car (with 1 baggage car), and 5 engine train came East.

That is what you are seeing in this photo, taken a little after 8 AM.

I have no idea when things are going to get back to normal, as these mega-storms head East.
