On The Island - The Long Island Museum

I went right, instead of left, as I exited, after visiting my Sister.

I didn't know where I was going, but I knew Long Island Sound was toward the north.

I ended up on 25A and turned right. If you are a Long Islander, you know that is the furthest north road that goes east and west.

I saw a sign for something called the Long Island Museum, and I pulled into the parking lot.

They said the admission was free for 9/11, and it was about 45 minutes to closing, so I went in.

Their temporary exhibit was Long Island in the 70's!

I was so in, since it was my teenage, and young adult time.

It was small, but each picture, or exhibit, was something I remembered.

Here are just a handful of photos from the exhibit.

Enjoy.

Three Trees Are Gone

When last seen, just over a week ago, my Son had 5 large pine trees in his backyard.

You can see them on the left side of the first photo.

After the two storms that came through (a week ago) Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon, he had to get rid of three of them.

He just sent photos of them, and yeah, the trees are gone.

It is sad to see, but as he said, it had to be done.

It's been quite a year for many areas of the Country, and I am sure it is going to get worse.

It's Been 25 Years

It has been 25 years since the towers at the World Trade Center fell.

As I have mentioned before, I was at home watching the horror on Television.

I then had to take the train to Downtown L.A., because there was no way they were not going to need me that day.

At that point, there was a plane that was due to land in Los Angeles, and they lost it, so they told the office workers to leave their buildings and get out of Downtown.

The subway car opened and a huge amount of people came running out, trying to leave the area.

Me, one of the few, got onto the subway and went through Downtown...

It was a terrible day to live through, and I don't forget any of it.

This is the memorial at Eisenhowser Park on Long Island. I am so sorry for everyone who died on that day, and I am glad Long Island remembers.

Back At The TWA Hotel - Twice In One Year

Yes, it is not cheap, but you just can't beat the walk from your flight to your hotel room.

The TWA Hotel is one of my favorite things about flying into JFK.

Part of terminal 5 at JFK, and a direct connection to the hotel itself.

I am arriving quite late in the evening, so I don't want to be walking around Manhattan or the city at night.

Not like any other hotel is much cheaper, out on the Island. :-)

More when I get there.

Going To New York, Once Again

I am off for the wilds of New York.

It's 9/11 Week, and due to the 25th Anniversary, it is a more solemn time.

I wonder if I will be able to see the blue "towers" as we land at Kennedy.

I am heading out onto the Island the next day, so I will not be anywhere near Manhattan on 9/11 itself.

I intend to spend time visiting family and friends.

I will stop by and visit my brother-in-laws grave, while there. It's been one year since we lost him.

Hurricane Marie

It doesn't happen often, but once in a while we get rain in August or September. In this case, they say this came from the now tropical storm, Marie.

She is quite a distance out from the shore, but we ended up getting rain all day on Sunday.

Just under an inch, for us, and I totally appreciated not having to water my yard on Sunday.

Everything turned a bright green again, and you can see our lawn is not bad at all this year.

Some years I am happy to have some lawn, at all.

Since Monday was Labor Day, we had no gardening, so it is going to grow, from the rainfall.

Though I hear 100 degree heat will be returning tomorrow.

A View Of The Water In Minetto

My Water Post For Today.

Back to the Oswego area, and the beautiful town of Minetto, NY.

We visited this tiny pocket park, when returning from Syracuse, because I love it so much.

This is looking toward Fulton, which is to south, instead of Oswego, which is to the north.

The river at this point, gives me much peace, as it flows to Lake Ontario.

I hope you enjoy.

A Visit With My "Magic" Son

We had some important things to discuss with my "Magic" Son.

So I asked if he was available, and he decided to take off the day before the three day weekend.

So we decided to meet at our favorite place, Grand Panda.

We got to the restaurant, and my Son's former girlfriend, and her Mother were there talking to my Magic Son.

It was nice to see the two of them, for a few moments, and then we moved over to our own table, to order lunch.

I have mentioned before that the lunch deal is very inexpensive, and as a matter of fact, it was just over $50 for lunch for 3.

He let us know that he is holding his own, by working lots of overtime, and cooking meals at home (which is how we normally live life today, cooking at home).

He has no time to practice magic, so he says he is VERY rusty, which I was sad to hear.

Otherwise, he is holding his own, living on his own.

It was good to see him.

My Dialect

This test was going around Bluesky the other day, and yes, I was curious as to what it would show about me.

You get 60 questions regarding what you call something (sub, grinder, hero...etc). Which was easy for me, a sub. :-)

Then they ask how you pronounce something.

Another question was, do you pronounce these words the same. In my case it was Mary, Merry, Marry. I said no, and that gave me away that I am a New Yorker. (I have no idea why).

I also got hit by how I pronounce things like Pecan, and Almond.

The final hint was that the shoes you wear to gym class, I said were sneakers.

It also points out that I have a West Coast perspective, which I was expecting. I definitely changed several words, when I arrived here in L.A.

Coffee, for one, and Purse instead of Pocket Book.

Want to try it for yourself? HERE it is.

Some Sort Of Surveillance Camera Has Arrived

I have no idea why this has arrived in my neighborhood, but there you go.

To me, it looks like a Flock Camera, though I could be wrong.

It has a QR Code that you can scan, to find out more about it, but I am not a fan of QR Codes.

I live in a peaceful neighborhood, as far as I am aware, but this seems to point to something that they want to monitor.

If I find out anything else, I will let you know.

Talk about living the surveillance life.

Ceramics Are Moving Along

After the delay last week, due to the fire in Newhall, Monday was my last legitimate ceramics class.

We glazed our pots, and they will be fired sometime this week.

I have the 2 lb pot that I trimmed, and left it to be first fired. I assume I will glaze it when I pick up the other 3 pots next Monday.

Being I am going away for part of the month, I am not available to do any more work on the potters wheel.

So I gave the clay back to him, and he uses it to make another kind of clay. (I have no idea who uses it, but more power to them).

I can't wait to see these pots glazed.

I did one red, one white, and one blue.

Brent's Deli Northridge

We were trying to take my Husband's Brother, who lives in North Hollywood, out to Langer's Deli, but he was hurting, and couldn't walk.

We offered Brent's Deli in Northridge, but he was not up for it.

After visiting him for an hour, we headed out that way, since it was almost lunchtime.

Brent's Deli is in Northridge, exactly the opposite direction from Langer's, and we figured at that time it would take less time to get there, then over to downtown L.A.

We made it just before noon, and they were ready for us, because the food and service was excellent, and fast.

I had a pastrami sandwich, which was so worth it (look at that meat!).

My Husband had the corned beef ruben, and it looked great, too.

We picked up matzo ball soup for our dinner, and all-in-all had a wonderful time celebrating his roots.

I learned some new things about his families deli in Chicago (who knew there was something I didn't know about that time).

Thanks Brent's for a great lunch. It is just under Langer's (in my opinion), but not by much.

Tim Curry Has Died

This is a direct quote from a post I made about The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 2016, which you can read about HERE.

I have watched the 1975 original many, many times, starting with my sister and I, watching it on HBO every Saturday Night at Midnight. (I forgot to mention that my parents were horrified that we were watching it each week, hey, we were adults.)

I went to a Theatre with my then boyfriend and saw it.

When I moved to Los Angeles, my new boyfriend (now Husband) saw it with a Hicksville friend at the Tiffany Theatre on Sunset Blvd. It was the first time I got the full audience experience. I loved it.

Years later, we even went to a play at our PAC at College of the Canyons. It was also good.

So you can say I am an expert at the Rocky Horror experience, and happen to love Tim Curry.

For him to die the same week as Dolly Parton, was so sad. He is a major player in the changes that came about in the '70s. Leading the way for people to be who they wanted to be, in life.

I am not much of a movie goer, as a general rule, so I can't speak for his other roles, but in Rocky Horror, he was the one.

I wish him the best, in putting on his fish net stockings, once again, and showing heaven what real talent is.

Lake Ontario, Always

My Water Post For Today.

You knew it was coming...

The past week has been bad on several fronts, as I have mentioned before.

The final nail in the coffin, was the President of the United States decided to rename Lake Ontario.

Talk about pissing off many people, including the entire population of Canada.

It's never going to be anything but Lake Ontario to me.

I hope you enjoy the photo.

Coyote Vs ACME

My Father loved Roadrunner and Coyote.

We kids would be watching Saturday morning cartoons, and whenever my Dad passed through the room, he would stop and watch a bit of that particular cartoon.

Big guffaws would erupt from him, cause he loved it.

In his honor, my Husband and I decided to go to the movies for the first time in at least a decade.

Wow, things have changed at the theater, that's all I can say. COVID-19 can do that to you.

There were not too many people there, so I was not masked, while in the theater.

Not wanting to give anything away, it was a good movie, and worth my time to see, and support it.
