This is on the campus of my first college. Nassau Community College was built on land that used to be Mitchell Field. One of the things a base has, is access to Rail Road Tracks. This line is not used much anymore, but I fully believe my love of all things train, comes from this very track. I remember walking the rails down this very route, back in my first semester at school. I didn't know it at the time, but this would become a habit of mine. I also pulled the same stunt, up at my 4 year college. That line was used all the time and I was really courting danger, doing the "walk the rails" thing.
These lonely tracks were never really used...except when the Circus came to town. They pulled the cars up over here to off load the animals and bring them to Nassau Colliseum. The cars stayed there on this siding, while the circus was showing. It was exciting to an 18 year old. I don't know if I would consider it exciting now.
Lonely tracks...yeah, I still like them. :-)
What a fabulous place to stroll and ponder the universe, as we all did in college! Thanks for sharing it. I can hear that lonely whistle blowin'... ;)
