Buddha Of Four Faces

I was in Hollywood one Saturday and I had a craving for some decent Thai food.

I had been reading a few reviews off of LAist and I had been getting dropped off at the Thai Town subway station, so I was becoming familiar with the area a little bit.
One place mentioned was Thailand Plaza.
They said that out front was a Four Face Buddha and when I parked the car and strolled around to the front of the building, there was the smell of incense and a man offering something to the Four Face Buddha.
I was enchanted by it and wished I knew what the four faces stood for and how one could pray to the Buddha.

I went looking online a bit, but was not really satisfied enough to connect any links about it, but what I did learn is that there was one in Bangkok, Thailand and that it was destroyed several years ago.

I also heard that you must return to the Buddha, if what you asked for, comes true. Dancing is involved.
Uh, maybe I don't want to ask for something there. Dancing is not my best skill...

Obviously, the first one
is of the Buddha itself.

The second photo contains
the offerings to the Buddha.

  1. Very cool. I used to love to go eat over there and once I even went to one of those places to see "Thai Elvis".

Dance away, I say - especially if you feel like you cannot. Perichoresis is at the heart of the Trinity!

OK, not so much theology so early in the day!!!

  2. Well, let me rephrase that, I do the moving to the music thing ok...

Anyway, the other thing I read is that you need to dance naked. That seems a bit much, even to me.

Oh, by the way, you dance reading (very nice by the way) reminds me of the song "Lord of the Dance", which I love singing in Church. :-)

I've been to that shrine; it's amazing. "Beautiful" doesn't even begin to describe it.

Hurrah for the hymn, "Lord of the Dance"! My kind of theology. (Thanks, Fran!)

    Namaste, everyone.

  4. p.s. -- I can't imagine the Buddha caring whether you dance (a) well or (b) naked. I *can* imagine him caring that you come back to share your joy in your wish being granted.

  5. Of course today I can not find any reference to naked dancing...maybe I was seeing things late last night. :-)

Piglet: Good thought. Maybe I will do that if my wish gets granted. What the heck.
