Eating Dim Sum At The Empress Pavilion

Part 2 of our Labor Day Weekend eating frenzy.

The Empress Pavilion is unlike anywhere else. It is a beautiful restaurant that has Dim Sum steam carts pushed around the room, by the wait staff.

It is a "go with the flow" place and your meal is never the exact same way, twice.

Sometimes you are lucky like we were this time and the pot sticker cart comes by, right off the bat. Other times you have the Chinese broccoli cart (which looks identical to the pot sticker cart), pass you by 3 or 4 times and you hit your head on the table in frustration.

I was dying to go and the guys asked if they brought me there, would I pay for lunch for them all. I was good with that, and so on Monday morning we set out for Chinatown. You always want to get there early. The place gets packed right around noon and as we left, the line was out the door. We had no wait. Yay us!

My Marine son's girlfriend had never been there, so once again we had a newbie with us. It is a place that you either like or don't and in her case, I think the jury is still out, but leaning toward not liking the experience. Good thing I got a bowl of white rice for the table. lol

Our favorite things are Shrimp Har Gow, Pot Stickers, Steamed Pork Buns, Beef Meat Balls, Shrimp Pork Dumpling Shiu Mai, Beef Rice Noodles, Fried Squid, and Egg Custard Tarts. My Vietnamese other son loves Beef Tripe and that is what they are eating in the photos. I eat some of it too, but I would not order it on my own. It's his thing.

It's an experience worth having, especially if you go with someone who knows what they are doing. We regulars had a great time.
