It's been decades in the making. It's been known by many names, over the years, but basically it was a road designed to be an alternate way to get from the I-5 Freeway (by Magic Mountain), over to the 14 Freeway, without going through the Newhall Pass.
It was supposed to be a Freeway...but that never happened. Instead, we have a surface street, but that is better than nothing. The Cross Valley Connector has finally arrived.
My husband went to the official groundbreaking ceremony last Saturday. It was a very windy day, here in Santa Clarita and you can see how clear the mountains are, from the photo. Always a good hint that the valley is getting blown around. :-)
All our local Politicians were there, to take credit and they deserved to be there. There was lots of fighting that went on over the years and roadblocks to get around. Buck McKeon made the comment that when he bought a house in 1964 he was told it would be finished in a year. "Welcome to 1965" he said to the audience.
We rode it about an hour after it opened and it definitely gets us over to the other side of the valley, faster. We will see if that holds, or if it too gets overloaded.
Welcome Cross Valley Connector.
We are glad you are here.

Obviously, My Husband.
The photo is of the

and others, crossing a
bridge that is part of the
final segment of the roadway.
Congrats! I know it's been a long time in coming.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kevin!
ReplyDeleteWhen I taught my son to drive, I used part of that road as the Freeway speed lesson. That way I didn't have to drag him up onto one of the real freeways. It's fast, but it still has some mighty BIG intersections with 5 or 6 traffic and turn lanes in them. So we shall see how much it helps.
It's always so nice when that sort of thing gets FINISHED.
