Happy Birthday To Makenna

She turns 1 year old this month.

My kitty was born sometime around this month, a year ago. She was born of a feral cat and thus was a feral cat. With 3 other siblings and no home, her chances were slim of living to a ripe old age. She was also the runt of the litter, another black mark in her having a "long happy life" book. Then she got rescued by the Happy Strays Rescue and ended up adopted by me and my son. We may not know the exact date of her birth, but since I need to ween her off of kitten chow this month, I figure I will acknowledge it here toward the top of the month.

Makenna has been a joy to us. She is shy, though not when it's feeding time. Quite often, one of us has to move her off the sofa and bring her into the family room. She seems to go with quiet spots, since she startles quite easily. A bang on the TV will frighten her. Those cowbells rung during the past Olympics, annoy her no end. lol

But she is mine. She sleeps at the foot of our bed at night and many a night, when I move into the Family room around 4, so I don't disturb my guy at 5:50AM each day, I will wake up with her sleeping in my lap. Knowing that kitty treats will follow, as soon as I wake.

At night, when I get home from work, she watches out for me (sometimes the only one) and greets me at my bedroom. Again treats will follow, as soon as I sit down. Even though it could be and probably is those treats, I like to think she cares about me and misses me when I am away.

She is my joy and my love.

Happy Birthday my kitty. Welcome to adulthood...and Cat Chow.

  2. I wrote this almost a week ago and rereading it now almost made me cry. I am sitting here, eating breakfast (my morning routine) and she is surrounding my arms, trying to get tastes of my food...even though I just gave her the treats AND refilled her kitty bowl.

She IS my joy and my love.

    Thanks Fran.

  3. She's a beaut. Isn't it something how cats insinuate themselves into our lives? I've never been able to write a story that doesn't have a cat in it. :) (Or live in a house without one either.) Happy Birthday Makenna!

  4. Happy Birthday Mackenna. Just think we can grow old together, since we share the same birth month. She gets more beautiful every picture I see. If their is something about a cat, if you are eating something, even if she has food in her bowel, she wants to see what you are eating. Happy, Happy Birthday Kitty!!!

  5. aahh... no it is not just about the treats, she loves you too, how very cute and sweet a story!!
    happy birthday, Makenna!

Souris likes to come under the covers in the early morning around 6, she just wants to curl up with my left arm around her no matter if i am comfy (there is already a dog sleeping on the bed as well, so..). sometimes there is just no room for her because the dog is in the way and then i have to re-arrange the pillow so there is room for the cat to curl up and purhrrhrrrr herself asleep by keeping me awake. Nino already sleeps with earplugs, so he don't hear a thing.

It's definitely not just the treats, Ange. Cats do love their caretakers and build relationships... she also fights with me when she doesn't agree with a decision i make :-) and sometimes her claws are too fast... i now pretend it hurts like hell and act as if i am crying... she seems receptive to that deception somehow and then blinks her eyes a few times giving me a look like "i am so sorry i clawed my nails in ya"... and then the "spell from hell" is over... these feline souls are so valuable and a real addition to a household, eh?

  6. Well said, Gina (Belgium)!! I have always had similar experiences with my cats. They have their favorite people, and it usually doesn't have that much to do with who feeds them. My SU gives our tabby cat milk (her only desired treat; she's weird) much more often than I do, but she's still clearly MY cat.

Angel, you and Makenna are lucky to have each other. That picture of her certainly shows her beauty.

  7. I missed this so much. Thanks everyone for all the good wishes and all the cat love. :-)

I think I will be giving the cat rescue a contribution for my kitty's birthday. If it wasn't for them...
