ReplyDeleteI have it on my Campbell Classic Hits collection that I spin every once in a while. Dwight Yoakam did a version of it on his Under The Covers album. (Most of the songs he covered were rock/pop. Some were straightforward, others he changed up.) For "Wichita Lineman" think of the difference between classic "Western World" and the Fagen-in-concert version. Yeah, I like the Campbell version best, but the Yoakam one ain't bad if you can handle the rearrangement. An interesting take to hear once anyway (beyond the Amazon sample) if you ever get the chance, but it takes some getting used to.

ReplyDeleteNow that you mention that you have had them for a few tax seasons, I bet if I did some research (which I am not), I would find that they started in your neck of the woods. It is the home of Lady Liberty, after all. :-)
Wichita Lineman is actually not written by Glen Campbell...he is just probably the most popular singer of the Jimmy Webb song. I will check out a You Tube of the Dwight Yoakam version.

We will remember those tunes from our growing up years, forever. lol
