Los Feliz Public Library

My boss needed to pick up a book at the Los Feliz Public Library. So I gave her my camera and sent her out on an op, so she could get me a photo of Leonardo Dicaprio's plaque. I wasn't sure what it looked like or what it said, I just knew that he grew up in the neighborhood immediately surrounding my workplace and he gave a very generous donation to the new library that they put up a few years ago. It just happened to be going up on the site of his old home, at the corner of Franklin Ave. and Hillhurst Ave.

It ended up that the plaque is inside a state of the art computer room, along with photos from the movie Titanic. I thought it looks very nice and as a matter of fact, the photo of Kate and Leonardo at the front of the Titanic, is probably my absolute favorite one from the movie.

It is nice to see an actor try to help others, instead of being aloof and all "Prima Donna" like.

P.S.
Thanks so much Sherri, for the great photos.

  1. You are killing me! How many times did I walk by this library?

I also recall walking by Leo's mom's house which is on... can't recall, but I could point it out to you if we were there, a right turn off of Hillhurst and the house is on the right before you get to Commonwealth. Maybe on Ambrose? Not sure.

    Oh deep sigh.

There is (was?) a pastry shop on Hillhurst, near Avocado, on the right. I can't recall the name but the ladies there loved Leo! It used to be the Le Conversation, but then someone else bought it and they made great stuff and they loved him.

I used to live off of Avocado on Ben Lomond, just before Avocado becomes Rowena.

Can you tell how much I miss LA? Especially because it was 70 here the other day and now I am looking at a dusting of snow!

  2. I think you mean Le Belle Epoque (which was on the corner of Hillhurst and Avocado). Now days it's Little Dom's. If that wasn't it, it was probably Cafe Los Feliz, (which is 3 doors down Hillhurst) take your pick. :-)

My current favorite bypass of the left turn at Los Feliz and Hillhurst must pass exactly where you used to live.
Los Feliz to Rowena to Avocado (passing right by Ben Lomond, cool house right there on the corner, by the way) to Commonwealth to Price to Talmadge and then down to Fountain and (of course) Sunset.

I swear Fran, if you and Hubby EVER decide to take a trip over here again, make sure you tell me!!!!!

  3. No - not Belle Epoque... It was a small little place, it might have been just south of the Avocado intersection. It must be Cafe Los Feliz! I am not sure that is the same name, but I am sure it is the same location.

Yes, if you were to take your little drive over there and turn right on Ben Lomond Drive, there are townhouses on the right hand side that abut the corner of Avocodo. I lived in the middle one. My friends Peter and Jeff used to live next door; now they are not too far away from where you work.

When I look out their windows of their current house, I look down the hill at Hyperion and I see Glendale in the distance and then hills.

If I am coming to LA you will be among the first to know!
