Last weekend I attended a party at one of my teacher's homes (that is him, talking to 2 guests who are sitting on a couch in his living room). It is the second time in as many months, that I have been invited and attended one of these.
He and his wife bought a lovely old farmhouse out on the eastern edge of the greater Oswego area (read this as about 4 or so miles out of town). What this means to us guests is that we can party and enjoy the evening and it is not too far out, so we can get back to Oz safely.
This was a going away party for a visiting student from Brazil. I had never met her, but other people in my classes had, so the teacher invited all his classes...which ended up being somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 to 30 guests, over the course of the evening.
This second photo shows off the wonderful staircase that goes to the second floor and the rooms where we congregated, for the most part. The dining area and the formal dining room which is adjacent to the kitchen. You see people in there, talking in the photo. Food is set out in the closer dining area. We had several kinds of chili, corn bread, snack food and desserts...with the obligatory libations for our drinking pleasure. I have had a total of 3 drinks in my entire time in Oswego, so you can tell that drinking while driving is not an issue with me. Especially since the city police are out in force, going after the college students who don't have much sense, in regard to how much liquor they consume.
Anyway, I spent 3 hours enjoying the party and I was totally glad I went. Even though I did not know the guest when I got there, I did get to talk to her while there and enjoyed my time with her.
I definitely feel like Damian's is the cultural and social heart of Oswego and I was so honored to be invited. :-)
