At the day old rack at our store, we found 2 loaves of Brioche bread.
I had just read that it makes the BEST french toast, so for the outrageous price of $2.99, we bought a loaf.
First off, what is Brioche Bread?
Brioche is made from an enriched dough that uses eggs, sugar, and butter. These additional ingredients make the bread taste dense, soft, and sweet. The crumb (the pattern of holes in a slice of bread) is also much tighter (lots of small holes) in brioche than in a baguette (large, irregular holes).
They say that it is best at making french toast, though Challah is also a great choice.
We had just made french toast from Challah, so we waited a few weeks before we decided to make it for Sunday lunch.
We used our tried and true recipe for french toast, figuring it would be better to compare how it came out, with the Challah french toast we recently ate.
Our opinion, it tasted great!
Oh, and in a cool thing, the bread was baked in France. Wow, all for $2.99. Score!
Photo is half the loaf, so there is another french toast breakfast in our future, some time.
