Brunch Of The Living Dead: Behind The Scenes

As you may remember from this POST, I have been involved in creating a 2 minute movie take-off of Night of the Living Dead.

It's been going well...or as well as you can expect, when they put baby powder on your face and black make-up on your eyes. :-)

You can check out how that went, in this Youtube Video posted by my friend and co-zombie, on his 24horor site.

Trust me, it was quite a surprise to me, that he shot this.

Enjoy.

Potato Pancakes (Latkes)

This is another recipe from 2007, that had no photo of the finished product and so since I had to have one for inclusion with my cookbook, I got my Husband to cook some for me and take photos. My thanks to him, for going to all that effort, just for me.

Hanukkah is coming around early this year. On Thanksgiving, to be exact. So I thought I would post this recipe today, since many people will be making them tonight. This also lets you see the updated photo.

Potato Latkes

6 raw potatoes peeled
1/2 Medium Onion chopped
2 eggs
matzoh meal to bind to the consistency of oatmeal

salt and pepper

Use the food processor on the potatoes and onion, until you have a fairly smooth mixture. Add the eggs and process some more. Add the matzoh meal until it looks like it will kind of stay in a pancake shape without running all over. Add salt and pepper, as needed.

Heat pan with oil and spoon 3 pancakes in the pan. Cook about 5 minutes a side. It is potato, so it needs to cook.

When done, place on a paper towel to drain and then serve with sour cream or applesauce. Yum!

Happy Thanksgivukkah

Happy Thanksgiving 2013! May you have a wonderful day feeding your family and friends. :-)

In my family, it will also be the 1st Day of Hanukkah, which means they will be lighting the 2nd candle that evening.

They have decided to cook the pototo pancakes on Friday, so they did not do the combined holiday theme. I think my Husband has enough trouble doing one holiday, not to mention 2 of them.

By the way, I love some of the very artistic and creative "Thanksgivukkah" shirts out there. This is just one example and of course, there are many others.

Enjoy!

Lower Falls, Rochester New York

It's Water Wednesday!

I promised you on Monday, that I would give you a look at Lower Falls today. It is a totally different experience, from High Falls. For one thing, the waterfall is much closer to the bridge. So the mist from the falls was hitting me as I took photos and there was water and ice on the bridge itself (which you can see in the second photo).

Note that the mist turns into snow, on the right bank of the river. I thought that was pretty freaky. Of course it was pretty cold that day, so it was probably normal.

There is a rose garden right across the street and that was where I parked, though as I found out, not exactly a great area of town. The homeless here were keeping warm by a fire, they were burning by the gorge of the river.

I kept my distance and they kept away from me.

I was glad that I managed to find this one, but to see Middle Falls, I would have had to take the time to walk down a trail and I just didn't feel safe doing that, or have the time to spend. I was going to hit Oswego just at sunset, as it was and so I didn't want to take an additional half hour.

I hope you enjoy High Falls down river sibling.

May The Warmth of Oswego Bring You Closer Together

It's getting a bit colder here in the frozen north. :-)

Thankfully, I don't have to spend huge amounts of time out in it, but yes, we may not have much snow yet, but it is still cold and the wind is blowing.

They have this cool fireplace in the new Campus Center and I was waiting for the day that they finally lit it. Well, Monday was the first day I saw it lit.

I had just bought a hot chocolate downstairs and came up to the lounge by the fireplace and there it was. Students all huddled around it, gathering the warmth.

So I sat down, took off my jacket, drank my hot chocolate and checked in on Facebook and Google News.

It was nice.

This was taken the day before, on Sunday and yes, it was cold that day, too.

We have been incredibly lucky on the snow situation so far (as I mentioned up above), but there is a big storm heading to our neck of the woods, all the way from the West Coast. We shall see if it makes it up here on Thanksgiving.

No matter what, I am glad I am going nowhere that day.

High Falls, Rochester New York

My Water Post For Today.

The Genesee River winds through Downtown Rochester. As a matter of fact, it is the reason that Rochester is located where it is.

As with so many cities in the world, rivers were the reason that people settled on land. In this case, the three waterfalls were the specific reason.

High Falls is the first of 3 waterfalls (and I believe the highest).

Brown's Race was built using the height difference and water from the falls. It was channeled into canals adjacent to the buildings that were built on the nearby streets.

Mills were built and used the water for power. Rochester, as a matter of fact, was the flour capitol of the nation, back in the 1800's.

These wheels you see in the second photo are relics from those long ago days.

The City of Rochester did a very nice job showing off their history, in the midst of their modern city.

The Amtrak tracks are right there with that overpass. I didn't realize as I came through the town, that I was within feet of my friend at WXXI. :-)

It is a very interesting area of town and I totally recommend checking it out.

Parking isn't too great though.

Lower Falls will be highlighted on Wednesday.

Lake Effect Snow Coming Our Way

Lake Effect Snow is forecast for last night. So I have no idea what I am going to wake up to today.

From what they mentioned on the weather, we are 5 inches behind normal, for this time of the year. That, of course, made me so happy. The less snow, the better. Yay team!

What that means to me, honestly, I don't yet know. What I do know is that I have groceries and I will survive.

Hopefully, it won't be too bad.

Shooting "Brunch Of The Living Dead"

Yes, this was me on Friday, back at my apartment after shooting "Brunch of the Living Dead". :-)

I must admit that I have never played a zombie in real life and I was probably a total novice doing it, but hey.

We shot out at a cemetery (the one we chose wouldn't, let us shoot on the day we needed to shoot). We decided to go to an alternate location, right on Lake Ontario and we did our shoot, there.

Two hours later, we had our footage and got out of the cold and damp.

We have interiors to shoot on Sunday and editing to be done on Tuesday, but we are hopefully getting somewhere.

Rumor has it, that there will be a web location for the films. I will, of course, keep you up to date on that.

Boynton House And The ABC Streets Neighborhood

When I drove to Rochester the other day, I decided I wanted to see a Frank Lloyd House that I had seen in a documentary on my station, about a year ago. So I got off the expressway and drove into a neighborhood called the ABC Streets Neighborhood. I saw this really adorable sign and I decided that on my way back, I would stop and get a photo of it.

I looked it up and I found out that though my house was not within the bounds of the neighborhood, it kind of felt that way. Old, well taken care of houses that are each just as wonderful as the next one. The residents take care of this little gateway to their neighborhood and I was lucky, they had worked on it just 4 days before my arrival, so it looked good...or as good as winterizing can look.

On to the reason for my journey. Boynton House was spotlighted in a documentary I watched about a year ago, called Frank Lloyd Wright's Boynton House: The Next Hundred Years. I brought the PR postcard with me, so that I would remember to go, if I got to Rochester. I got to town early and immediately swung over to the neighborhood where the restored house is. It is about a mile from the George Eastman House (which me, my sister and our Husband's visited), back in the 80's.

The house is a private residence and so all I did was take a few photos of it. That is usually sufficient for me. As anyone who has read this blog for any length of time knows, I love the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. :-)

WXXI

I think this will probably be my last trip, traveling any sort of distance from Oswego.

I had promised when my Husband and I took the Amtrak through Rochester, that I would come back during my semester and visit a long time friend who is the program director for WXXI, the local PBS Station.

Well, after I made the appointments to see WCNY, I finally tried to make that trip. We decided that Wednesday would work for both of us and so I put it into my (totally overfull) calendar. Then I watched the weather...and watched the weather...and watched the weather some more. It kept saying it was going to be sunny on Wednesday! So on Tuesday night I looked at what I wanted to visit in my short time in the city and I made the 1 1/2 hour drive over to my friend. What was so incredibly wonderful, was the fact that we could talk shop and we both understood each other.

We traffic (she former traffic) people have a way of speaking that no one else understands. It was just a great time! I was taken out to lunch at an incredible Italian Restaurant called Roncone's on Lyell and the food was just fabulous. I have been eating my own cooking for the most part and it was great to get Chicken Parmigiana made authentic and decent. :-)

After lunch, I got taken on the tour of the station and what a tour it was. The station occupies 5 floors in the building!

So many departments that my station no longer has, are still here at WXXI.

An Auction Department (totally online) an Educational Services Department and a Volunteer Office where people were putting together mailers to go out to members. All scenes I used to see back in the day, at our Sunset Blvd location.

Somehow I got the feeling they are doing OK financially and I was quite proud of my friend for all she does for the station. Programming is not easy and she makes it look that way.

All in all great time and even better, souvenirs from WXXI...WIN!

Riverside Cemetery, Oswego

Yes, it's Water Wednesday.

We were scouting locations for our 2 minute theater production using the movie Night of the Living Dead as the subject. That meant that other then zombies, we needed a cemetery to shoot in. So one person on our team picked Riverside Cemetery, which is well over 100 years old. Lots of cool stuff to shoot and get this 2 ponds!

So, of course I couldn't resist a few photos of the water with the graves and the fall leaves. Enjoy.

Buttermilk Biscuits

It all started because I had 3 cups of buttermilk that was at expiration.

I needed to do something with it today and it wouldn't wait.

Well, I doubled my pancake recipe (the original reason I had bought the buttermilk) and froze a bunch, for those busy days when I have to run to campus for class.

What to do with that other cup of buttermilk...

Yes, biscuits! The perfect choice.

Buttermilk Biscuits

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon table salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
9 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cut into small chunks
3/4 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 400 °F and cover cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Place dry ingredients together, stir for a moment and then add the butter into dry ingredients until the mixture resembles a coarse meal.

Add buttermilk and stir until large clumps form. Use your hands to knead mixture briefly, until it just holds together.

Transfer the dough to a floured counter and pat out until 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick.
Using a round cutter (2 to 3 inches around), press straight down and do not turn the cutter. Remove the now round biscuit and place it on your cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Space the biscuits two inches apart.

If you prefer to make drop biscuits, drop 1/4-cup spoonfuls onto the cookie sheet and space them the same distance apart.

Bake until biscuits are golden brown on top, about 12 to 15 minutes.

Immediately serve hot, with butter and or jam or whatever you want. If serving at the dinner table, place them in a basket with a clean dish towel that you can put over the just baked biscuits, to keep them warm throughout the length of the meal.

This recipe yields 6 very large breakfast biscuits that you can use to make egg sandwiches or 9 standard ones, to serve at dinner.

The Calm Before The Storm

My Water Post For Today.

This is Lake Ontario a few hours before the storms coming up from the South and the West, hit our area. We are due for some Thunderstorms around 11PM on Sunday night, so I am sure the lake will be choppy again after that time. Especially since I hear high winds are forecast.

But for now, enjoy this beautiful view of the lake, right at sunset.

Being it is a shot looking directly North, you don't see the sunset, but that is why the colors are like they are.

A totally worthy water post.

The Boston Office of American Public Television

If you watch any PBS Station, you have probably watched a show that comes from a distributor called APT (American Public Television). Most all the cooking shows and how to shows, are distributed by them. Such things as Lidia's Kitchen, Simply Ming and Doc Martin, to name a few.

Back in September, I actually visited their office in the downtown Boston area and I am finally getting around to writing about it.

It was a big event for me, since I ship shows to them all the time.

So I got a kick out of seeing their office...and spending a little time with my friend, Robyn.

Here is a photo of their conference room. You can't see it, but it overlooks Summer Street in Downtown Boston.

All of us in Traffic have highly stressful jobs, but as we have all figured out, the friendships we form, over the years are priceless.

This was only the second time I have ever seen her. We met for the first time, at the PBS TechCon last April. I was glad to get a second chance to talk and visit. Especially since I normally never get to the Boston area.

It was an unexpected pleasure.

Party At Damian's House

Last weekend I attended a party at one of my teacher's homes (that is him, talking to 2 guests who are sitting on a couch in his living room). It is the second time in as many months, that I have been invited and attended one of these.

He and his wife bought a lovely old farmhouse out on the eastern edge of the greater Oswego area (read this as about 4 or so miles out of town). What this means to us guests is that we can party and enjoy the evening and it is not too far out, so we can get back to Oz safely.

This was a going away party for a visiting student from Brazil. I had never met her, but other people in my classes had, so the teacher invited all his classes...which ended up being somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 to 30 guests, over the course of the evening.

This second photo shows off the wonderful staircase that goes to the second floor and the rooms where we congregated, for the most part. The dining area and the formal dining room which is adjacent to the kitchen. You see people in there, talking in the photo. Food is set out in the closer dining area. We had several kinds of chili, corn bread, snack food and desserts...with the obligatory libations for our drinking pleasure. I have had a total of 3 drinks in my entire time in Oswego, so you can tell that drinking while driving is not an issue with me. Especially since the city police are out in force, going after the college students who don't have much sense, in regard to how much liquor they consume.

Anyway, I spent 3 hours enjoying the party and I was totally glad I went. Even though I did not know the guest when I got there, I did get to talk to her while there and enjoyed my time with her.

I definitely feel like Damian's is the cultural and social heart of Oswego and I was so honored to be invited. :-)

The Finch Dance Off!

So the big day came...our Finch Dance Off.

If you remember, about a month ago, I had to spend a week with a robotic Finch, trying to program it to dance. I mentioned it on a post, HERE. Well, I was probably a total failure at that, but I ended up pulling it off in the end.

What I did do, is that I chose a piece of music that matched the racedriver program I had to use as an example. So the subtle modifications I made to that program, kept to that basic programming.

What I hoped, was that when the Finch did its thing, it would match the music and the two parts would actually work together.

When I ran the program and the music on dance day, my programming looked OK and it did work with the music. Win!

I couldn't believe it!

The teacher (seen in the 2nd photo) had us text to vote, similar to what people do for things like American Idol.

In great news for me, I actually got a vote!

I was totally fine with the result and I did learn a bit about programming and mostly how to persevere and pull success out of the jaws of failure.

Isn't that what life is all about. :-)

A Staff Exhibit At Tyler Hall

The same day I saw my Art Teacher's exhibit (which you can see, HERE), I went over to the other gallery and checked out the yearly SUNY Oswego Art Staff's exhibition. I had just met the Chair of the Department, earlier in the day and she mentioned that she had a work in the exhibit.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but surprisingly, there was quite a lot to like and appreciate.

These 3 works did the best job of speaking to me, especially since the first 2 were painted in oil (my favorite medium).

The first one has all those jelly beans spilled on the table. They look so real!

The colors are incredible, too.

It was painted by artist Kate Timm and it is called "Spring Flowers, Jelly Beans". As a matter of fact, it screams Easter to me, too...due to all the jelly beans.

This second work was next to the first one and I really felt that they were both done by the same artist. When I read the little tag, I found out that I was correct in my assumption.

Though different in the reality of what they have as subject, again the use of plants and subjects, scream out the time of year, especially the gourds out in the front.

The lantern flowers are a perfect accompaniment, with their wonderful bright orange color. Again, a reference to the time of the year, without using a pumpkin.

The artist called this one "October", though I personally thought it should be called Fall.

This third one is so large, that I had trouble getting a decent shot of it, but it is many house pictures and the work is done by my Grad Critique Instructor (Chair of the Art Department), Cynthia. She calls it, "My Houses" and it is painted in mixed media.

What I like the most, is the fact that it is set up in a quilt form, with similarities and differences between the squares.

I like the shades of blue, orange and purple, too.

All in all, between my Art Teacher's exhibit and this Department exhibit, I got a renewed love of what I am doing.

Another View Of The Mighty Rolling Lake

It's Water Wednesday!

Since the water was just so dramatic last Sunday, I give you another view that actually still has some grass in the photo. Most of the green is slowly dying, so this was pretty wonderful.

My friend said when she saw the shot I posted on Monday that the lake's waves look like the ocean. I so agree with her.

The spot I took this photo (and the one on Monday) is a private property area between the school grounds and the stands. I thought it was worth abandoning a running car in a no parking zone, to take the photos.

I ended up being right. They were so much more dramatic, then the ones I took on campus and at the stands.

Enjoy the might of Lake Ontario, once again.

A Look In My Digital Art Class

Today's post is a look at my art class.

The first shot is a general photo of most of the class.

Obviously, I turn up on the computer next to my friend, "Pixie" on the third row.

May I state for the record that it is a pain to learn anything, trying to peer over those huge Apple computers. :-)

Here is a candid photo of my teacher, Cara, helping a student one row in front of me.

She usually checks in with us all, during the 3 hour class and then, when we ask her to.

She is quite a knowledgeable person and it is a pleasure to watch her in action.

I am really going to miss the access to all the equipment and programs that the Apple computers have on them.

34 days til I leave here.

Windy Day Sunday And An Anniversary

Happy Veteran's Day, to our men and women in the service and a special one to my Husband.

My Water Post For Today.

It was blowing hard here in Oswego, on the Sunday that is the 38th Anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking. November 10, 1975. Thankfully, it is still the largest ship to sink in the Great Lakes, all these years later. I am sure other larger ships, appreciate that fact.

I have a little blub from NOAA's website to show you.

In honor of the anniversary, here is a tribute to the crew (may they rest in peace), of course, courtesy of Gordon Lightfoot.

"The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald."

On to the photo I took on Sunday.

I was shocked, how the normal "beach" of rocks was almost totally overcome by the waves yesterday. The land you are seeing in the photo is up above the beach, on the side of the road. I wonder if the waves ever crash onto the road by the stands?

We have snow in the forecast for tonight and several days this week. We shall see if any of that comes to pass.

I am ready, so no worries there.

Oswego Speedway

As the NASCAR racing comes to an end, I am in denial. What will I watch on Sundays! Ack!

I had wanted to go to a race at the Oswego Speedway, but they were only racing through Labor Day weekend in the month of September and I was just getting my act together, at that time.

As I would run my errands to grocery shop or go to Walmart (or the bank of Walmart, as I call it), I would hear the racing cars running their laps around the track. It always made me smile, because it reminded me of our old speedway in Santa Clarita, Saugus Speedway. That speedway had its wooden stands removed, earlier this year, so all that it does is the Swap Meet, several times a week.

I think they both ran similar races, back in the day...but I know so little about the different types, that I am not sure.

All I can say here is that it sounded similar to our old Friday Night races.

It's kind of nice to pass it by, as I run my errands. Even empty, as it is now.

"Pixie"

This is my best friend in Oswego.

She is another Integrated Media Grad Student and shares 2 classes with me. We get doubled up together because we are the only two in our art class that have never worked in digital art before. We have also never used Apple products, so that puts both of us at a disadvantage.

As I may have mentioned, the teacher decided to track us on our own and so we are doing iBooks Author projects together, instead of the class project being done in an apple program called inDesign.

We now sit together and talk, when having trouble. Thankfully, iBooks Author is incredibly intuitive. In other words, easy peasy...for the most part. When that isn't the case, we see if the other has hit that situation before and basically help each other over the rough spots.

She lives right down the block from the school and so after class, I bring her home, so she does not have to wait at the bus stop at 9:30PM at night. I feel better and it doesn't take me out of the way at all. Remember, Oswego is a very small town.

She has a blog (we all have blogs, for our Integrated Media class).

You can check out her story book called Birth of a Meteor HERE.

Seeing My Call Letters For The First Time Since I Left LA

I am homesick.

I will state that for the record.

I am having a great time, but I miss what I am and my life in Los Angeles.

One of the things I miss is my TV Station...the place I work.

I see nothing, no shows, no call letters just what I deal with on my laptop here in the cold and frosty East. :-)

So a week or so ago, I happened to see that WCNY airs BBC World News America, one of the shows that uplinks through our station and carries our logo.

Well, I was one happy camper, when my station's call letters came up on the air.

Yay team!

37 days and counting, til I get to see my family again.

Mondel Bread

I have been working on a cookbook for my Art Class and in the course of grabbing things from this blog, I have found out that in some cases, I have a recipe and no photo. So to update this post from 2007, here is the original recipe, with the addition of the temperature (350 degrees) and this photo.

Mondel Bread
(My Mother in Law's Recipe)

1 Stick Butter
1 Tbl Oil
Cream together with
1/2 Cup Sugar
Add in
2 eggs
1 Tea Baking Powder
1 Tea Vanilla
2 cups Flour
1 package Almonds (or walnuts) Chopped

A tablespoon or two of sugar A half teaspoon or so of cinnamon

Mix the ingredients together and then divide into 3 parts.
Shape into flat fat rectangles on a oiled cookie pan. (I use parchment paper)
Sprinkle with the Cinnamon and sugar which get combined together.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes in a 350 degree oven, then cool a few minutes. Slice each of the three rectangles about every 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch and turn the piece on its side as you do it.
When all the mondel bread are laying on their side, they should look similar to biscotti, just smaller in length.
Put them back into the oven to brown, maybe 5 or so minutes. Turn them onto their other side and brown it, too. Take out and let cool.

Enjoy, they are GREAT!

Glimmerglass, From The Other Side

It's Water Wednesday!

I have been wanting to get the opposite view of Glimmerglass Lagoon, for the entire time I have been up here. The problem is that it is quite a walk over there and there is no parking in The Village.

Well, the other day I found a 15 minute parking spot, right in the front of The Village. For loading and unloading, I am sure. I used it, to take a walk through The Village and get to the other side of the lagoon.

It was a wonderful, windy day and I really enjoyed my brief time, checking out the college's senior housing over there.

The part I wanted to see, was at the end of the road. Looking across the lake at Tyler Hall, Culkin Hall, and of course, the ever present, Niagara Mohawk Power Plant.

Enjoy.

My iBook Cookbook

This photo of me was taken on Halloween.

You can see my spider web cape on my shoulders. I thought that it worked out well, for a 2 second costume. :-)

I was working on the cookbook for my art class.

It is getting to the point that I finally have most of the images and recipes in the book and I am doing things like cleaning up the words and layout.

My teacher has me looking into getting it published in the iBook Store.

If I do, it will be free and I will definitely get you information...but that's for another day.

As I chose recipes, I realized that I had taken some photos of the dishes and other times, it was just an after thought that I put up a recipe. I was especially stuck without images of Mondel Bread and Potato Pancakes. Both are in my Jewish Recipes Chapter of the book.

I decided to do the Mondel Bread baking this past weekend and my Husband was assigned to making a plate of Potato Pancakes. Thankfully, my man was up for the challenge and delivered the photos to me on Wednesday. He even put the plate on our dining room table with the blue runner on it. My guy is great!

This is the cover of the iBook.

I may still change the title, but for now, it's my cookbook.

Please let me know if you have any comments.

It still has a bit of time before I finish it off, so let me know if you do.

Everytime I see this photo, I wonder what my rabbit thinks of being front and center on the cover. :-)

A Windy November 1st

My Water Post For Today.

We had a very windy day on Friday. I had to stop by the school and put money on my Laker Card, so it was important to get that done on the last day they had a deal with 10% off your purchases of food and no NY State sales tax. What a deal!

So I did my business and then I got into my car and decided to go up against the forces of Mother Nature, as the wind howled off the lake.

I stood under a tree (making sure the branches looked OK) and took my photos of the waves breaking. At times the winds were so fierce that the breaking waves were being blown sideways. It was amazing!

Of course, the gales of November came to my mind once again. You kind of can't help it. :-)

South Station Boston, MA

I have had so many things to talk about, that I have not gotten to all the things I was going to mention about my quick trip to Boston.

I flew into Logan and I had seen there was this bus that runs til after midnight called The Silver Line. It drops its passengers off at South Station in Downtown Boston. This line was what made my after concert trip to Logan, possible. They just didn't tell me that I could only sit at the entrance and not by the gates... Oh well, live and learn.

Anyway, this station connects to two different subway lines, one of which is the red line. So the entire Downtown area is within your grasp. It's a great bus service that changes mid way from a bus, to a light rail subway, that goes underground. I was impressed.

The tunnels are square and made for the bus, but it gets its power from the cables at the top of the tunnel, or on cantenary wires above the track for the bus, when it is outside. I was impressed at how efficient it was and cheap, too. This photo shows how the bus looks, when it is under South Station. The Red Line is one level up from the Silver Line.

Major kudos to Boston! Now if we can only get somewhere for the overnight crowd to be able to sleep, while they wait for the morning, it would be perfect. At least we had a bathroom to use.

Back To My Old School

The image you are looking at is just a photo. The actual video is embedded over on my Steely Dan webpage and I am trying to keep the actual You Tube ID away from the bots, so I ask that you view it over there.

Click the link and check it out. Steely Dan Webpage.

It was created with a program called Soundslides and it ended up being easy to use, but the more you want to do, the more money it cost, so I went for the cheaper model, without all the wiz bang bells and whistles. Trust me, I didn't need them. :-)

It cost a whole lot less then getting Final Cut Pro, so my $39 was money well spent, to bring my Integrated Media Project a bit of Technology.

I would have wanted to cut to the beat of the music, more then it ended up doing, but I could not see the photos and music at the same time. Though I might be wrong about that. It was my first time using the program.

There is a demo "free" copy that you can download and try your luck with, but at the big moment, it was not able to upload my video to You Tube. For that you need to pay the money.

I actually look forward to doing a Lake Ontario slide show sometime, though obviously to a different piece of music.

WCNY Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

I had been hearing about this for the past several years. The entire NY State Public TV Stations were going to transmit their stations out of a central master control facility called Centralcast, in Syracuse, New York.

Being I grew up in New York and have ties to 3 stations in this state, I have been watching this very closely. Well the day finally came. WCNY had a ribbon cutting ceremony and Open House for their viewers to see the future, in their town of Syracuse. It was a huge big deal.

There were big wigs from all over the state and local leaders, too. Everyone who helped shepherd this through the mazes of the Federal Government, state and local government, too. Even to the area of town that the facility is located in, had a lot to do with the success of the project. The Near Westside neighborhood where they ultimately decided to build the facility, has the lowest median income for residents, in the entire Syracuse area...17 Thousand dollars a family. We are talking extreme poverty here.

The residents who spoke today, have great hopes for the facility, not only because of what they transmit, but because the common area around the building complex will have a jumbo-tron, where they will screen movies and sporting events, for the residents of the area. They will also be able to go to the commissary on site and sit and enjoy the area. I hope this works out for them all.

Paula Kerger, President of PBS spoke at the ceremony and here is a little bit of what she said. She spoke of this not being the only facility, but one of many.
