20 plus years without an NFL team.
When I came to LA, we had the Rams. Shortly after I arrived, Georgia Frontiere took over the team and eventually decided to move the Rams to St. Louis. This was 1995. Yes, we did also have The Oakland Raiders for a short period of time, but we were all thrilled when they abandoned us.
After that point in the mid 90's, we had nothing.
We are the second largest market...and we have no NFL team.
The rumblings began with Farmer's Field. A developer wanted to build a world class stadium next to Staples Center. I personally thought that was a bit of a stretch, but suddenly, we were back in the running for a team.
Then it was 2 teams and finally 3 teams and 3 stadium locations. My head was getting dizzy.
On Tuesday the NFL gave permission to the St. Louis Rams to return to the city that loved them for 50 years.
They are coming home to LA and the stadium will be built in Inglewood.
It is going to be an uphill battle, but hopefully they will get their fans back and the town will support them.
