An Australian friend of mine has been traveling for the past year in most of Europe. She has made England her base of operation, working during the week and then taking side trips to different Countries on the weekends and such.
I give her so much credit for coming up with a cool way to travel, when she is young and single.
On to the subject of this post. My friend was in Berlin not too long ago and photographed some traffic signals.
My Husband happened to see one of them and commented that the photo was very interesting. So I commented on it and found out that the traffic symbol had a name.
A quick trip to Google and I found out that these are traffic signals in the former East Berlin area of Germany. When unification of the two parts of Berlin happened, they tried to consolidate traffic signals into one design. There was a public outcry and in this case, the East Germans won.
They got to keep their cute little Ampelmaennchen.
I think the design is truly inspired and deserved to remain.
They really are adorable -- I'm glad they got to stay!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. How cute are they...
