Bottega Louie is a trendy restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles.
I was recently invited to a luncheon there, so on the day of the party, I drove my car in and parked out behind the restaurant in a vacant lot.
It's at the corner of 7th and Grand, which seems to be an area that is on the edge of the high rise area, which also means that it is toward the end of the "office" worker area. This location did not seem to bother the restaurant though.
It was packed with people and just buzzing with activity. From what I heard, that is the normal for Bottega Louie. It's been open about a year or so and word has definitely gotten out.

On to the food.
I was with a party, so it seemed that many things just came to our table, drinks included. :-) So don't ask me prices, for most of these things.
We had floured and deep fried portabella mushrooms, as an appetizer and may I say, they were delicious, dipped into a spicy hot white dipping sauce. More on that another time.
We had several "California" style pizzas, which were crunchy and good.
Baked Macarroni and cheese, which was beyond excellent and then our individual entree. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan (which was $16, by the way).
It came as pictured, 3 slices with sauce and cheese on them. This seems to not be a restaurant for the faint of heart, in regard to money...
Inexpensive, it is not.

As I was leaving, at the end of lunch, I checked out the sinfully delicious looking and so beautiful, dessert offerings.
If you click on the image you might see that the macaroons pictured in the last image are $9 a small box and $21 for a large one.
The cupcakes pictured were $2.50 each.

But how beautiful are they? :-)
They box them up at the holiday, into huge stacks, which were in the windows and they were truly stunning to see.
I recommend this restaurant, but I definitely caution any who go, to make sure they can deal with the "sticker shock" those prices can give you.
Manga!
Those macaroons are not colors found in nature. At least not for food. Eek.
ReplyDeleteThe cupcakes look mahvelous, though. And baked mac 'n' cheese? My kind of comfort food. Give the the m&c and a cupcake, and I'll go away happy.
Yeah, those colors are a bit out there. But how wonderful they looked through the glass. lol
ReplyDeleteMy family are not big Mac and Cheese people and so I never have it here. A real shame, I lived on it in college. :-)
My family don't care for it much either, and I can't seem to make it from scratch to save my soul. I get my fix at Famous Dave's BBQ Shack, which makes fabulous mac & cheese, with jalapeno peppers and corn in it. I could eat it by the quart.
ReplyDeleteVelveeta Shells & Cheese had just come out when I was in college... much better than Kraft!
It was always Kraft for me. Something like 33 cents a box. How could you not like the cost? Add a hot dog and you had food...when a minute earlier, you didn't. :-)
ReplyDeleteeggplant and cheese, looks very yummy! but we had a lot of cheese lately, roquefort fondue.. gorgonzola fondue... typical holiday things to do with family and friends eh?
ReplyDeletestill, can also make it a mixed cheese and light bechamel sauce :-)
haven't been to a restaurant in ages, and when expensive, i'd much rather spend the money at home experimenting making pastry and such myself ... but it can be a real treat, to not have to cook and just see what you're served :-)
Gina: I so understand...but once in a blue moon, it's kind of nice to mingle with the people with a bit more money then me. lol
ReplyDeleteI want the macaroons, please
ReplyDeletesorry for the duplicate commets
ReplyDeleteI took care of the duplicate. :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the Macaroons.
