These are the angels that guard the gate to Thai Town in Los Angeles, California.
I get dropped off many evenings by my boss at this very angel and I swore I would come during the day and get a few photos.
I had to go to work on a recent Sunday and I made a stop to photograph the angels.
They are called Apsonsi, and you can read more about them on the plaque that is at the base of the statues. (It is the last photograph in this post)
There is one on each side of the street and though the plaque references 4 of them, I have no idea where the other 2 of them are.
I think it's a beautiful spot on Hollywood Blvd. Something you don't see every day, or ever, for that matter.

ReplyDeleteHey, hey, hey, my Internet name IS angel. :-)
ReplyDeleteI thought they were kind of cool.
Oh, I added some posts that also deal with Thai Town. Just for a bit more on this area of town. A little known fact, it is also part of Little Armenia.
Overlapping ethnic areas, what can I say. :-)
Thailand and Aremenia cheek by jowl... gotta love the US of A!!
ReplyDeleteThe apsonsi are wonderful. I had seen them in Bangkok but had not thought to ask anyone about them -- thanks!
Piglet, you have been to Bangkok. How cool is that?
ReplyDeleteIt's VERY cool. I've been there twice, once in 1998 and once in 2009, and loved it. I'd like to be able to visit more of Thailand. The people there are fabulous, and being in a culture that is SO different from my own fascinates me.
