The Throgs Neck Bridge At Sunset

My Water Post For Today.

The son of our friends from Phoenix, took his incredibly pregnant wife (she has less then 2 weeks to go) down to Little Bay Park, along the Cross Island Parkway. There, they watched the sun set and took some beautiful photos with the bridge, the water and the sky.
The shadows on the water, the lights on the bridge and the boat reflected in it, make this photo stunning.

He kindly allowed me to use this one, for you, my readers.

By the way, the Throgs Neck Bridge is the major bridge that we on Long Island use to exit and enter the mainland. It brings back so many memories, of trips taken for vacation, college, etc... When we were on our way back, once we crossed that bridge, we were "home". I still feel that way, today.

I hope you enjoy.

  1. That is a beauty! Love it!

I am from the BX originally, well I was born there. Even though I never lived there, I spent so much time in the Bronx for the first 10 years of my life, I might as well have.

And that bridge... crossed it many, many, many times.

  3. I definitely remember the feeling of "home" when crossing the "Frog's" Neck Bridge.

I'm on the east coast again, summering in Upstate New York, and I've driven to the city several times now. It's been just soggy with nostalgia. On difference is E-ZPass. I don't pay tolls in cash any more, and I get a nice discount. The three bridges from the Bronx to Long Island are about $6.00, but I only get charged $4 with E-ZPass.

Driving my pickup truck on Long Island is incredibly inconvenient, since I can't use the Parkways, but I get along. Also, No Right On Red in New York City is hard to remember.

I'm enjoying New York, but cold weather is approaching, and I'll be leaving for the southern states before it gets here.

  4. First off, Ed, thanks so much for the update! I hope it has been a good time for you and the family. I will be back that way in a few weeks, visiting and this time we have some playtime, too. :-)

Fran: Where did you grow up? I am totally spacing (or maybe I never knew?).

Martha: I remember a trip you and I made to Oswego together and we both took turns driving up and back. Yes, on the way home, the Throgs Neck was the bridge that brought us home. That was a great time, by the way. We stayed in Seneca Hall (in case other Oswego grads come this way and see this).

  5. What great shots! :)

EZ-Pass is the way to go, leave those cash paying suckers in line. Though $4.80 to pay for dilapidated roads still irks me, as does Robert Moses' crafty financial scheming to ensure we are still paying tolls on all of his crossings to this day. And aren't interstates supposed to be free from tolls?

  6. Shawn, no Freeways are free from tolls (hence the name), Interstates can do what the heck they want.

Out here in LA, we have tollways, when a fee is charged. I avoid them at all costs. :-)
