It hangs on my wall and has for the past 30 years.
I don't think about it so much, but when I turn away from my computer, I sometimes contemplate those freeways with their on and off ramps and think again that I really love this work. I had no idea who did the work...until now.
230 years ago on the 4th of September, the city of Los Angeles was created. Happy Birthday to us!
For our 200th birthday in 1981, there were several posters of life in LA created.
I fell in love with the freeways one and even went to the effort of getting it professionally framed. It cost me a lot more money then I had back in those days...but it was very important to me, that I treat it well. That was, in retrospect, I good idea, because the poster looks much better then this photo that I found on the Internet.
The artist, is Wayne Thiebaud and when I Googled him, I found out that he is well known in the "Pop" Art genre, on par with Warhol. He is known for his realism and you can see that in this freeway poster. The detail is amazing.
If you would like to check him out, there is, of course, a wealth of information out there. HERE is Wikipedia.
