If you had asked me on January 1, 2011 if I would still be here at KCET 4 1/2 years into the future, I would not have made a bet on that being a sure thing.
But here I am and I have attained the status of working at the same place for the past 35 years.
2 years ago I wrote a post about reaching 33 years and you can see that, HERE.
If you remember, 2013 was the year I went off to college and I used this very post (rewritten, of course) on my final project for my Integrated Media class.
I was talking to a collegue who has also been with the station for many of those same years and the two of us are so happy that we got to experience so much fun, along the way. So I thought I would mention some of that, here, at this anniversary.
In the day, we had company newsletters that went out, letting us know about our colleagues at the company. A Facebook friend of mine, Ramin, used to write these and what a hoot they were. I remember a photo of my (then) boss, who was pregnant at the time, making one of the 1990 newsletters. As a matter of fact, in August of the same year, we had our photos taken with Bart Simpson, for Ramin's birthday. He was a huge Simpson's fan.
We also used to perform (if talented) in a company production called Cabaret. It always amazed me how talented our staff was. Of course we all worked in a creative field, so that (I am sure) had something to do with it. Singing, dancing and theater productions, were the norm.
The shows and pledge productions we did in those days, the "live" factor in so much from that era. It was a baptism of fire for me and I thrived in that environment. The first 15 years were something truly special to me and I thank Bill Kobin for a lot of that era. He was not perfect, but he gave us quite a bit of free reign, too.
It has been grand. My KCET Family and my extended PBS Family, have all enriched my life.
Having a job that made a difference in the lives of the Millennial Generation and Gen Xers, also makes me happy, to this day.
How many can say that?
Thanks.
Congrats!! That's a loooong time. You should get a medal! ;)
