More views of our trip on the Amtrak.
When my Husband and I took the Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle/Lakeshore Limited to Syracuse in 2013, we passed through El Paso, Texas.
This time around, we were at a different time of the day and we were going in the opposite direction.
After spending a half hour at the El Paso Amtrak station, we moved Westward. I figured that since the Rio Grande is the border between the US and Mexico, that we would not cross it. I was incorrect in that thought...almost immediately, as you can see HERE.
We must have gone about 2 miles and then came to a wide spot in the river and we crossed over from Texas, into New Mexico. It was a really pretty area with desert cactus living on the mountains. I tried to get a photo, but it wasn't to be.
Then we curved and suddenly we were right on the fence. I mean RIGHT ON THE FENCE! There were these light poles that (obviously) light up the area at night, to keep people from crossing the border. I don't remember them from my trip here last time, which you can see, HERE.
Were they a new addition? I have no idea...but it brought home the fact that we were in the land of plenty and these poor residents of Anapra, Mexico were not.
It only lasted a few seconds, but it is a life changing view.
How totally sad.
