Summer is basically over. All that is left is 20 more days til fall is officially here. The change of the season was felt as we stood by the runway at Van Nuys Airport Sunday. My son was supposed to fly some Touch and Goes, but the plane was missing. By the time it showed up, it was too late to fly and so we headed back home. On the way, we decided to check out the public viewing area of the airport. It's close to the top of the runway and this experienced viewer had no idea it existed, until I finally watched a show my son got for Christmas: One Six Right. In the video it showed the public viewing area and I was like, "where is that?" My son said they pass it on their run up to the top of the runway. So we drove over to it and got out to look around. As we are looking around we see the Super Scoopers have arrived and are parked just north of our location. They are leased each fire season from Canada and we get them, starting on September 1st. Just in time for the worst of the fire season. Thankfully, we in Southern California have not had too many fires so far and they are here in time.
As usual, I hope we won't have any more, but when those Santa Ana winds begin blowing, things get out of control fast.
I am glad they have arrived.
