Santa Ana Winds, Once Again

We drove to Vegas last weekend and upon our return, I went over to the front of my house and I see that our Pepper Tree had fallen down, in the high winds that had been blowing during our drive home. So after we went out to dinner, my son, husband and myself, pulled out the compromised tree. We had just one root left and knowing that more winds were forecast for later in the week, we decided that we could no longer trust the tree to stay up. So we cut the remaining root and took off all it's branches. Probably for the better, because we were warned to take the tree down, or relocate it, years ago.
As predicted, the winds have picked up and there are several fires burning and lots of houses, too. It's a yearly thing with us and it NEVER gets easier to deal with.

As of right now, the pass out of my valley is totally closed and I needed to drive south today.

At least my house is not threatened and I say a prayer for it to remain so.

  1. How sad! I understand your feeling. This winter, we're faced with the removal of our apple tree and another tree next to the side of the house that we irresponsibly planted 14 years ago without a thought to the future.

The loss of a tree is painful.

  2. It's always sad to lose trees that you have taken the time to love, water, trim and make beautiful. This pepper tree got trimmed by me twice a year, to keep it from getting too tall. Unfortunately, I had only partially trimmed it and when the wind hit, there were still tall branches that blew it down.
