A Mexican Wedding

My son got asked to work a wedding yesterday. This is his 2nd Wedding and his first Mexican one. We noticed there were lots of differences from what we are used to.

There were a lot of attendants and one of them carried a very large Rosary (called a Wedding Lasso). Another carried a bible, and others, some pillows (called Kneeling Pillows). They are for the Bride and Groom to to use during the ceremony.

I did find out that these are all traditions of a Mexican Wedding with each having a different significance. The lasso is placed on the man and then the woman, to bind them together, the family bible gets blessed by the Priest and the kneeling pillows are a remembrance of the day. The are usually beautifully embroidered.

During the Mass there was the normal procession of the bread and wine, but in addition, there is a basket of food brought forward. I tried to find some information, but as of now, I have no idea why.

One part of the wedding I did not see was this custom, the giving of 13 gold coins. It may have happened, but being we are in the very back, it was very hard to see.

We had some technical problems with both the priest and the bride and groom not talking into the mics and so my son had the levels all the way up at the top and had to ride them. This is the photo you see here. He was right on the edge of feeding back and so actually worked very hard, to keep from doing so.
He earned the $75 and it was very appreciated, by him. :-)

All in all, a good day.
