A Wicked Evening

No one mourns for the Wicked...except me.

I was expecting to be in the "No one mourns for the Wicked" section, but as I now know, that is not the case. In spite of me remembering the song from The Wizard of Oz, "Ding dong the Wicked Witch is dead", I found myself loving her. The applause that erupted when she entered the stage at the beginning of the play, was definitely a hint. Many others share my feelings in this matter. Considering how well we all know the story of the Wizard of Oz, this production rarely deals with the actual occurrences of that movie. It is only in little snippets of action, that you see or hear reference to actions and events that happened in the movie. The Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and even the Scarecrow do turn up briefly. Dorothy, not really, just in shadow.

It was difficult sometimes to follow, but I got enough to truly enjoy the production. I was worried that I did not know a single song, but that did not become an issue. The way they deal with unfamiliar audiences, is they do reprises (in this case 2 of them) and that helped a lot.

Thank you Stephen, for making a totally unlikable person, lovable.
