Pyramid Lake

My Water Post For Today.

One of the best things about passing through the difficult Grapevine/Fort Tejon area of the I-5 Freeway is the fact that you pass Pyramid Lake and its recreation area. Lots of water, lots of boats and in winter, snow on the mountain tops. It is rarely anything but a spectacular site to view.

Pyramid lake is part of the State Water Project and as such, it has a use outside just recreation. It sends water into Castaic Lake (which is down in Santa Clarita), and creates prime time power generation. Late at night, when usage goes down, they pump the water back up to Pyramid Lake and the cycle starts again. The water levels are sort of like a seesaw, they go up and down, every day.

Being this is a man made lake, what makes this water look so incredible, is the fact that you have mountains surrounding the lake. Quite stunning to see.

I hope you enjoy.

  2. Yep, it does.

I wonder if the water looks clearer, because of it going down to Castaic Lake and then back to Pyramid. Because it is really BLUE!
