My family are big BBC viewers and have been for decades.
I personally watch Doc Martin and my Husband watches Doctor Who (of course) New Tricks, DCI Banks, Inspector George Gently and Vera, just to name a few.
The other day this cool interactive map turned up on my Facebook feed and I totally had to bring it here for my blog readers.
Please click THIS link and go to the webpage.
I found it of interest, especially since I am not the world's best expert on where in England different towns are located.
I am lucky I know where London is and (of course) Cornwall.
Check it out.
Is there a larger, more readable version of that available anywhere? I did a quick look, but I don't have much time right at this moment. I want to share it with a friend who is a big fan of BBC-sourced PBS shows, both new and old.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
For free on the web, I mean. I don't want to pay $34 for the official print. It's not **that** important.
ReplyDeleteWow, you found more information than I have. Sorry you can't find a bigger photo than the link I gave in the post.
ReplyDeleteI just got back to looking and I found a just larger enough version which is more readable (to **my** eyes)...
ReplyDeleteDaily Mail article dated TODAY, Sun, Feb 28th).
Direct image for largest full resolution effect.
Actually, this one direct from Tim Ritz's own site looks to be even slightly better for size and clarity.
ReplyDeleteBut then if you'll note the direct image URL features ".jpg?format=1000w" there at the end... Just manually change that hard-coded formatted width to 2000 (or whatever) pixels and you can get it to pretty much any suitable size you'd want (within reason, I didn't try beyond 2000 which is more than good enough for my purpose).
Oh, and at a quick glance he's since added in the Shetland Islands, top left for a show apparently called "Shetland" (which I'm not familiar with).
FYI: Max width looks to be 2250. I tried 10000w, but the image just maxed out at 2250w. So not far off from what I tried when I just simply doubled the original setting of 1000.
ReplyDeleteSorry, last one...
ReplyDeleteP.S. Looks like you **can** display it larger on the screen at, say, format=4000w, but if you save it to your hard drive it only saves it as 2250w. So I assume that's simply the raw max width of the file. Displaying it larger within your browser window is merely like a digital zoom, but it won't let you actually save a version quite that large in reality where 2250 is the max. 2250 is more than large enough, though, really.
Thanks, my friend. :-)
ReplyDeleteTom Ritz's is really nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, we are airing Shetland in March. Here's the blurb.
"The television murder-mystery series is adapted from the immensely popular crime novels by Ann Cleeves set against the stunning backdrop of the Shetland Isles. The acclaimed drama stars Douglas Henshall as Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez. When an elderly woman is found murdered on the archaeological site in the grounds of her croft, Perez and his team investigate and find that somehow the murder is linked to another."
I just had the time to actually make the map bigger, via your hint. Wow, it really works!
