TV Guide Polls - Fighting A Battle, One Unit At A Time

TV Guide online edition has a poll regarding shows that are on "The Bubble". Bubble shows are ones that are not a shoe-in for renewal next season. So being our favorite show, The Unit, is up in that category, we are voting...and voting...and voting. Some people whose names I won't mention...sit there hour after hour in their whooping cough haze and vote. We even have one who votes while we sleep. Our Aussie Girl is our secret weapon...you GO girl! So we had the lead for a few days, but yesterday, Jericho, our main competition, came back strong.

So we need to be stronger...

The things we do for our show. :-)

  1. But I like BOTH shows! Can you vote for more than one? I'll have to wander over there at some point shortly and check it out.

I really don't expect Jericho to be back since its reprieve from last season was conditional upon ratings anyway from what I heard. And I don't think the ratings have been significantly up (if at all) this season, despite the fact that, in my opinion anyway, I think the show has been stronger this season than the first.

For me personally, Jericho also would be a show worth saving because I've been on board from day one. Almost left it a time or two, but stuck with it and now I'm glad I did.

But I'd love for The Unit to return also! It's a rare show that can pull me in after two seasons of not watching at all due to time slot circumstances. The last show to do that was probably Buffy and that became one of my all-time faves. And I didn't latch on to House until summer rerun season of its first year.

Oh well, those are just some random "off the top o' my pea-brained noggin" thoughts. I'm off to see the wizard, uh, I mean TV Guide poll...

  2. I don't know. I'd like to be able to vote for The Unit, Jericho, AND Boston Legal (another show I've been with from the start).

I put a vote in for The Unit for you, Angel, but now I'm refreshing the page so I can also vote for the other two in turn. Thus my Unit and Jericho votes will be a wash and with the meager votes Boston Legal is pulling in, that one's basically just me spitting into the wind. Oh well.

  3. Trust me, even with my T1 line at work, nothing moves on that poll. It takes a concerted effort and hours of work, to get a point moved. Very frustrating thing.

You can vote for the other two, just make sure all votes for them give The Unit double votes. ;-)

  4. I was sorry to hear that Jericho got canceled today. I did not wish that for them.
As a matter of fact, I sent an email to CBS mentioning that compared to the 1.5 that Big Brother 9 got on Tuesday at 9P, Jericho kicked some major butt by getting a 2.9 at 10P. Guess they didn't listen to me...

  5. Thanks for the Jericho info, Angel. I can't say I'm surprised.

When CBS cancelled it the first time and then as result of fan reaction renewed it for the short second season, they made it clear that its ratings would have to improve. They said that regular viewers would have to get the word out and get the audience to grow.

So when ratings for this season started out pretty much the same as the first season and then stayed there or went down, I figured the writing was on the TV screen.

Let's hope The Unit fares better. I have no idea how its ratings compare with those of Jericho, but sometimes it's more about drawing certain demographics than about the overall raw numbers—as you well know.

I'm disappointed, but was also prepared for it.

  6. This zap2it article says:

The show's early 2008 ratings were its lowest yet and recent episodes have averaged a 1.9 rating in the key 18-49 demo. On their own, the show's ratings were among CBS' lowest, not even close to enough to justify a renewal, but matters were complicated by the strong online performance for "Jericho," both in terms of iTunes downloads and streaming views.

Producers reportedly produced two different endings for the second season, one with a cliffhanger and the other offering resolution for the devoted fans.

On March 25, fans will get that second ending.

I thought the ratings for the first episode or two were about what they'd been for part 2 of season 1, but apparently they weren't even that high.
