If you follow my humble blog, you are aware of the fact that I just recently bought new furniture for my family room. Before this purchase, it had been something like 20 years since we had bought new furniture, for any room in our house. Well on Saturday, Hubby says to me that the store we bought from, is going out of business. Say what?
This company that I bought from has been around for almost 37 years and just opened a brand new showroom, right in the middle of my town. It's beautiful and as I would pump my gas at the station across the road, it kept attracting me, to go inside and wander around. So I had visited it several times, before finally dragging my Husband inside, for a look see. The salesperson who helped me each time, was very friendly and helped us through the entire experience, when we finally decided what we wanted. She even mentioned that she had about 18 months to go until retirement. Unfortunately for her, that is not going to happen and I feel so sorry for her. As I stepped into the store tonight, to take a final look around and see if they had anything else I would be interested in buying, she was the first person I saw. I told her how sad I was about this and she thanked me and told me that many people had come in to let her know they were sorry and to wish her well. I did take a final walk through and the very things I had looked at 2 months ago are all being taken apart and sold. It was the most depressing shopping I have ever done and no, I did not find anything I wanted.
How sad to lose your store, Angel.
ReplyDeleteI associate strong memories with my furniture. While I was in the story buying my living room set at a "going out of business sale", I heard that Susan Smith confessed to killing her two little boys in the pond. I couldn't look at that furniture without thinking of those little Angels.
Come to think of it, this isn't really related to what you're saying here, but this memory hit me like a load of bricks after reading your post. I guess I'm a thread jacker on your blog!
No problem, thread jacking allowed...as long as it's respectful :-)
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do, don't tell me what piece of furniture it is...
ah, i was expecting a Steely Dannered story, given the EMG nod (well, more than nod, it just screamed at me this morning)
ReplyDeletebut i can sympathize with the situation for sure. imagine how the employees must feel who have worked there for maybe more than eons, right?
When I took the picture, the other night, the Steely Dan Album, Everything Must Go, was indeed in the back of my mind. They had other signs, like Going Out of Business and such, but this one was it for me.
ReplyDeleteOf course, when I took the picture, I didn't know that the band would be newsworthy this particular week. :-)
