A friend sent me this link to a couple of Steely Dan Cover tunes, from a band in the DC area. It seems his neighbor is the bass player for the band. One is "Don't Take Me Alive" and the other one is "Green Earrings".
Got a minute, click the link and check them out. Joint Chiefs Band.
hey, dimskip will have to brush up his tribute band listings...
ReplyDeletethere is a pic of LP in the desert, by the way :-)
Already took care of it, Gina.
ReplyDeleteI moved the list back over to the Yellow here. I still have it on its own page at geocities as well, but it's just easier to edit/maintain at StAl's place.
I enjoyed checking out the various tribute bands over the years and more often than not I was quite impressed by the musicality of the efforts. But I don't have the time or patience to go through the list again to re-check it, to see which ones are still around and which have, uh, dis-banded. :-)
I can never play myspace tunes without all sorts of starts 'n' stops and that's no way to check out a band, so I can't really comment on The Stealy Band.
The Joint Chiefs were impressive musically, but the vocalist would take some getting used to. He's not bad or anything like that, just not Donald. But then, who is? :-) (I only downloaded the two Steely tunes to check'em out, nothing else.)
Yep, I caught the update over on the yellow. Thanks so much for doing that, my friend.
ReplyDeleteWith Tribute bands and such, it always comes down to Donald's voice...
One small clarification: the Joint Chiefs aren't an SD tribute band outright. By their own admission, though, they play more Steely Dan in their sets than any other artist's music.
ReplyDeleteIf you're visiting D.C., check to see if they're playing!
Cheers,
Rupe
