Happy New Year to you and yours from me and mine.
May this year turn out better then the last.
A personal New Year's memory, from when I was 14.
I remember my Dad saying on New Year's Eve 1969, "Boy am I glad that this year is over. What a terrible year." Yes, he had every right to say that. The 60's were trying at best and 1969 in particular was filled with much to make you sad. I remember saying to him something like, "But Dad, it wasn't all bad. The METS won the World Series and the JETS won the Superbowl!" I too was right, in the fact that Miracles happened, too. As a matter of fact, the Mets didn't win another World Series for almost two decades and I don't believe the Jets have ever gotten a win in the Superbowl again.

Happy New Year to you and yours as well.
ReplyDeleteYour post got me thinking about 1969. A pivotal year for folks our age, yet many events of that year were disturbing and destabilizing to those who were living it.
A look back via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1969 shows that the year featured not only the political and social unrest of the Vietnam War era, but also some then noticeable wonders and then some events that would not be known as significant for years to come.
The year boasted not only the two New York sport championships, but also the Apollo 11 Moon Landing,
The above mentioned article also points out that 1969 brought us the invention of the CCD, which led to the digital camera, the first ATM machine (installed on Long Island), the first ARPANET link (as well as the first four ARPANET nodes) and the beginnings of the Unix operating system.
hi Angel, happy 2008 and yes, may it be better than last. why i play those old songs in Rumpus, is because it reminds of better times, better vibes. the idea of future then, it was optimistic, romantic even. there was more positivity in people, a lot of that seems to have vanished in thin air. i wonder why. i wonder why people rather be nasty than kind.
ReplyDeleteanyway, WE best keep those good vibes rolling, eh?
keep on bloggin' :-)
