I don't know if I have ever mentioned this before, but I oil paint. The past several years have been hard on me and I don't get to do it much, if at all, but for many years Monday night was painting night. I took a class and enjoyed the friendships of other artists and the love of oil painting. Walking around the room and seeing what everyone else was up to, was a great way to get some perspective on your own work. I miss it and hope to someday, slow down enough to spend some time blending the tubes of paint and making something permanent out of them, once again. I added a link today, to allow you to see a small gallery that I put up several years ago. Many of my Steely Dan friends have seen these, but for others, here is a chance to see some of my work. Click Angel's Oil Paintings in my links section on the side of this blog or check it out with this link My Oil Paintings.
I hope that some of them speak to you. That's all an artist asks. :-)
WOW! I am definitely impressed! Great stuff! I recall seeing the St. Andrew's Abbey one on an earlier post, but I had no idea you were so prolific.
ReplyDeleteIf I could do anything like those, I'd certainly take pride in them---as I imagine you do. They're amazing.
I used to watch the "PBS painter guy" once in a while, the guy with the frizzy hair. I'd always be fascinated by how he could dab here, dab there, and voilĂ ---a tree!

Also, I want to check out those two Steely cover tunes, but last night my connection was kind of poor. Hope to try to download'em later today. If not, then sometime later in the week at least.
Good morning, Angel! Your work is fantastic! How 'bout a post that describes your process? How do you know what you want to paint, how do you get the vision, how do you hold your vision? How do you....well, um...DO it?
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you paint more often?
You ROCK!
Thanks both of you. You are too kind.
ReplyDeleteRegarding those painters who dab a few times and viola, I have a personal problem with that. I spend much more time on a painting then half an hour. It could take me months to get one done (of course only being able to paint an hour or so a week, caused that.) Detail is painted in, not caused by double loading brushes with several colors, or other time saving techniques a la Donna Dewberry. For me, it's not speed, it's the feeling and the pleasure I get out of it. I have never sold a single one of them and keep them all. Well, minus a few I painted specifically for someone. They are my babies, after all. :-)
Cindy, I will think about your question as to where does the muse come from, etc. As you say, a post for another day.
4 Channels and a teenage son, are my excuse. I hope to make more time, cause I really miss it.
Nice use of light, esp. the abbey painting. Would like to see these up close. (Maybe at the next CA danfest!)
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that these were taken with a disposible camera and then scanned in.
ReplyDeleteBut you get the idea... :-)
D: You sayin' I get to be in charge of any future LA Danfests? lol
