Snow On The Mountains

One of the interesting things about living in Southern California, are the mountains that surround our area of the world. As I mentioned in my post about Vasquez Rocks, the mountains are formed by the many fault lines that run through our area, including the infamous San Andreas. Basically, a good thing, coming from a bad thing. On the way to work yesterday, I was immediately greeted by snow on the mountains that I see from my house. Those mountains are to the north and west of where I live and are around the Frazier Park area. Snow looked the heaviest over that way. As I rode the train to work, I saw many other mountains with snow, but not as much as Frazier Park had.

When I get to Glendale Station, the mountains take a turn and so you can see them going off to the east and suddenly Mount Wilson (the highest mountain in the immediate area) is visible. I was suprised to find out that Mount Wilson seemed to just have a light dusting of snow, compared to Frazer Park, but it always goes by how much precipitation occurs at a location, not the height of the mountain itself.
It gave the area, which is suddenly cleaner and greener then it has been in 2 years or so, I very nice feel and the nip in the air was nice, too. Not quite New York in December...but good enough for this expat.
