The Finger Bone Of The Buddha

Please note that the finger bone mentioned in the post has nothing to do with the statue of the Buddha, down below.

While we were in the Chinese Warriors Exhibit at the Bowers Museum, we came upon an area that showcased a Monastery's relic. The finger bone of The Buddha. They kept the relic in all of these boxes, one nested inside the next.
It stayed at the Monastery, until the current ruler requested that they showcase it, via a parade through the town.
I believe the smallest box is the one made of the most precious of materials, alabaster. There is also a larger box made of gold. All boxes were provided to the Monastery, to give honor to the relic and thus, The Buddha.

In the same room was a statue of the water Buddha. I have no idea why he is the water Buddha, but I make the assumption that the missing part in front, may have held a clam shell with water in it. Similar to what one sees at the entrance to a Catholic Church. I may be wrong, but I sincerely don't think so.

I thought it was a different looking statue of the Buddha and decided it was worthy of recording, so I took its picture.

More on the exhibit, next week.
