Langer's Deli

It doesn't get much better then this...

Crisp outer crust, soft and moist on the inside, this rye bread is tops. Add pastrami and chopped liver, Russian dressing and cole slaw and this is a sandwich that is fit for a king. Obviously, I am not the only one who feels this way. We read an article a few weeks ago about the city of Los Angeles naming the street corner that Langer's Deli is on "Langer's Square". This reminded us that it had been too long since our last visit and we made plans to celebrate my birthday, by going. I brought my Hubby along and three of us headed off to the subway. 4 stops later we get off at the MacArthur Park Station. Yes, the same MacArthur Park forever immortalized in the Richard Harris song from the 60's(MacArthur Park is melting in the dark, all the sweet green icing flowing down...) :-)

Walk all of a quarter of a block, cross the street and there it is, as it has been for 60 years...Langer's. It's a Jewish Deli, for the ages and this New Yorker has been to many, in her years on this planet. The place was packed at around 1PM, when we arrived, but we finally got seated and ordered. Hubby went with the corned beef, my friend went with the pastrami...and I went for the blintzes. It was all delicious. So delicious that we had to get an order to go, for my son. That's how truly excellent it is. A note on the neighborhood. It is not the best section of town, so most of Langer's business, is a lunch crowd. They do have curbside pick up, if you are worried such things. If using the subway, I do suggest going with several people, it's just a bit safer. Don't engage the locals...and enjoy.

  1. Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting, and YOU post a photo of a delicious sandwich on your blog? Good thing I'm a vegetarian and am not affected by pictures of meat (although that rye bread certainly looked tempting!)

  2. What no points for me, cause I got cheese blintzes? lol

By the way, there was plenty of non meat items there, too. Just so you know. :-)
