I have always had a love of Frank Lloyd Wright and his architecture. Back in the 1996, I got a calendar featuring one of his most famous buildings: Fallingwater. It's a summer home in rural Pennsylvania, that was built straddling a stream and what makes it so incredibly interesting is it becomes part of the landscape. When you are in the building, you are one with the river and the surrounding trees. I decided to try to put this building onto canvas. It was not an easy job, but I somehow painted it and almost did the vision of Frank Lloyd Wright, justice. When a friend of mine saw my paintings the other day, he immediately emailed me and let me know that he had actually visited this beautiful building and would I like to see a picture or two. Well, yeah, I might... :-)
So he sends the pictures over to me and one of them, is this one. It's basically the same view as in my picture...but with the total innocence of the falling snow. With his kind permission, I showcase it here on my blog.
Lovely photo, Angel! Mr. CLV and I spent some time switching between your painting and the photo...your painting is inspired and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThe thing I noticed first about the photo was that the canterlevered structures are not exactly on with each other. After all these years, I had forgotten that fact and so when I would look at my painting, I would criticize myself for screwing it up. I was so relieved to see it's not my fault. At least that part.
ReplyDeleteMy friend sent me a slide show, with many other shots and what kept getting me all excited, was the parts of the structure that I had painted. It was all coming back to me. lol
